What owners say
"Overall, owners are highly positive about the 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser, particularly praising its off-road capabilities, reliability, and unique appearance. Many appreciate the strong performance and build quality, making it a fun vehicle to drive. However, several noted downsides, such as poor gas mileage, limited interior space, and significant blind spots, which might frustrate some drivers."
They don’t make them anymore and are very rugged durable for outdoor fun. If you don’t care about gas mileage and limited visibility from the inside was the only downside.
September 24, 2025One of the most reliable vehicle’s Toyota has made. The durability and off road package is what stands out for me.
June 24, 2021Performance: Couldn't ask for better acceleration for a 4300 lb box on wheels. It's got the same V-6 as the base 4Runner, but variable valve timing for smoother, more responsive power. Braking and handling are, again, good for its size and shape. Off-road performance is stellar- I've driven tons of Jeeps, a hand-full of Land Rovers, and one Hummer H3, and it will go places (and get out of places) none of the rest could. Beefier tires and 4x4 helps. Build Quality: It's a Toyota SUV. Appearance: judge for yourself. I like it, some of my friends won't be seen in it. It doesn't look like anything else on the road. Blind spots took a lot of getting used to. Interior is no more or less than anybody needs. No leather heated seats or sunroof, and a cramped back seat, but great head room and driver/front passenger comfort. Water-resistant washable floor and cloth seats. NO MAP LIGHTS!! WHAT??? Cost of ownership: On my best tank, i've gotten 22mpg. The worst has been 16 mpg. Premium fuel will get an extra mile or two per gallon for most drivers. I used synthetic oil at 15K miles, and it was $60 for me to do it in my driveway with a K&N filter. Dino oil changes with a Fram filter are free at the dealership for 3 years for me. This car is a blast to drive off-road, and a tolerable road vehicle as SUV's go.

May 1, 2009Really like everything about this vehicles features. Has just enough tech to be convenient but not so much you dont know how to work everything. Water resistant seats and rubber floors make for easy cleaning They are a little over priced cause they didnt make a lot of them and they are getting older and higher mileage. Watch for rust on the frames, especially from norther vehicles. I would probably compare it to a jeep but I feel the Toyota has better quality and longevity.
October 9, 2023I love driving and customizing this car. It has a commanding presence and people notice it. I've been on many trips where I've been stopped by a stranger at a gas station to talk about my car. This is not a car for shy people.
January 18, 2015The only thing I can see as a drawback on this truck is that it uses only premium unleaded! Otherwise I'm always dying to drive! The gas mileage isnt so bad, I get about 18 in town and about 25 on the highway. Toyota made a very good solid and fun SUV. I'd recommend to this car to anyone!
November 1, 2008Awesome car, great for everything that I need. Sizeable interior, high torque, drives great, still driving strong and smooth at 200,000 miles with very cheap parts.
March 15, 2022I have owned pickup trucks and SUV's, I have heard this FJ gets poor gas milage and on windy days you feel it and I have heard the seats are not comfortable. I love this vehicle and I call it the all terrain vehicle that will do anything and go anywhere. If you want really good gas milage buy a small car. If you complain about wind? drive any other SUV or truck and compare. If you don't like the interior? why did you buy this in the first place unless the dealer held a guun to your head. This is a vehicle that is meant for anything, anytime or anywhere without a problem and they are pretty comfy. I am 6'3" and 245lbs and this has more room than my wifes expensive SUV? This is a vehicle that will live on longer than any that try to compare and still look good. Craig
January 22, 2010one of the best cars out there for a daily driving automobile the performance is not the best but its better than other cars like jeep, this car is very fun to drive because in the city you can drive over almost anything on your way
September 19, 2009The FJ is an awesome vehicle, lot of extra features which placed it above my means. Lol
