Write a reviewThe 2008 Honda Element rolls into showrooms virtually unchanged from the previous year. However, it remains one of the most functional and adaptable vehicles on the road today. Thanks to a large cargo area and seats that not only fold flat but also fold up and out of the way in the rear, drivers can haul just about anything within reason, including all sorts of sports and adventuring gear.
Offering drivers even more options, the versatile Element comes in a wide variety of trim packages for 2008, in both front-wheel and four-wheel-drive models. Under the hood of all models resides a 2.4-liter, double-overhead-cam i-VTEC four-cylinder engine that produces 166 horsepower. Equipped with variable valve timing and other technologies that help improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, the engine also provides a towing capacity of 15,000 pounds.
As in previous years, the Element has side cargo doors that are hinged at the rear and open at the front (also known as suicide doors), and a clamshell tailgate that opens wide to admit all types of cargo.
Standard features for the Element include black, stain-resistant flooring, water-resistant seat fabrics, four-wheel antilock brakes with Brake Assist, a tire-pressure monitoring system, and an AM/FM stereo system with an MP3 input jack.

Ive owned the Honda Pilot, Honda Civic and now the Honda Element. By far, this is the funnest car Ive ever owned. In 2024, finding one with low miles and mint condition was a unicorn. And Im sure Elements will become more and more scarce in the future, since they were last discontinued production in 2011. The interior space of this car is huge for its size, water resistant floor, and the seats fold and adjust in so many ways - its just too much to explain here. Look it up on YouTube. It runs like a beauty for a 4 cylinder and shifts buttery smooth. The exterior is, nothing like in the market right now. The Element is, hands down... the swiss knife of SUVs. Jan 14, 2024

Jeez where to start ! The split seat are absolutely chefs kiss , so much space and room. My favorite thing is the bed that the seats make it’s absolutely genuine. If you love to travel or adventure like I do the love and appreciation that will gained for the vehicle is everything. Incredible versatility. With the massive interior volume, flip-up/removable rear seats, hatch/tailgate combo, and other clever design features, this car is super underrated and currently no other modern SUV is remotely similar. You can haul just about anything, or even camp out in it (since the seats can fold into a bed), and since its a Honda, you know itll last a really long time with basic maintenance. I liked the fact it is easy to clean, it does not have carpet so you can pick up or even take out back seats and drive your dog, equipment..etc with you. very convenient feature. Has great visibility, feels like you are above the road.Feb 22, 2015

Disappointing car. Handles pathetically poor in snow or wind (even slips on the occasional dry payment!). Seems spacious on the inside, but somehow nothing ever fits in it when I go to Home Depot. It says it's good for dogs, but that is not the case, unless you want them flying around inside or in a cage in the way back where you can't see them. Very loud inside, and there is absolutely not extras on this car. Sunroof in the back seat is a nice option, but it gets really hot back there since the back windows do not fully open.Sep 13, 2014

I think the Element is the best of the "BOX" Utes (the others just tried to copy the ELMT) on the road. I personally like the 5 Spd trans over the Auto. Better MPG and control. The camping possibilities are outstanding. "They" even have a tent the Element can back into and leave while the tent stays in place.Sep 07, 2012

I love this vehicle. Its unique looks & design make it functional and fun to operate. It's great in the mountains and at the seashore. Power is adequate when passing at higher altitudes and handling is quick and responsive. Stadium seating allows for good visibility for rear seated passengers which is important for those folks suffering from car sickness.
The rear seats are simple to remove & install which allows for a smooth deck when loading cargo.
No repairs have been required and scheduled maintenance is minimal. Since this is my 2nd Element I would not hesitate recommending it to a friend or relative.Jun 27, 2012

I love that its so easy to keep looking nice, and that it can haul anything. And that it is a Honda, so you know its reliable and well made. I also love the color - it is awesome looking. And the face that there are so many things you can do with it - its so versatile. The whole concept of ruff and ready rubber mats seats moving up and out of the way all lends it's self to an owner who is very active, physical, camping, canoeing, biking, and a dog owner. Even the seats are washable for muddy paws.Mar 08, 2012

This car is a fun ride and makes yuppies feel young. Amazingly responsive for the size and shape of the car. We were much happier with the storage when we added an aftermarket console between the front seats.The All Wheel Drive gives the extra traction you want in rain and snow
With 50K on it, I've been impressed with the minimal maintenance costs. However, be sure to watch the tires in the AWD and keep them rotated. Mine did not make 30K, most dissappointing.

I wish it sat a few more people, but that would kinda defeat the purpose I guess. Its great w/kids, I can get my son in and out so easily. The back seat rides comfortably for short rides, but gets a bit uncomfortable for long distances. Overall, I love it!May 15, 2009

Great Utility vehicle for those who arent planning to drive to Kilomanjaro. Solid Fuel Economy, Amazing handling for a chassis thats 3000 lbs and as aerodynamically challenged as this. Headroom is awesome, as is rear passenger space. Can fit 4 6-footers in this baby with no complaints. Only knock I can think of isnt really a knock - The shape and design is not for everyone. This is a 2008 Honda Element Ex 4wd. I purchased this car in Oct. It features clamshell side and rear doors. The rear seats can be layed back then folded up onto either wall so the entire floor can be used, or you can take the rear seats out all together. The front seats can also fold flate with the rear seats and be used as a bed. There is a rear sunroof that pops open or comes out all together.Flooring is a rubber based material.
