Write a reviewFord added only a few upgrades to its Explorer Sport Trac SUV/truck for 2008, after giving the vehicle a design overhaul the previous year. A new Safety Canopy system, which includes side curtain as well as front airbags, helps protect passengers in the event of a rollover, while a new four-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel with tilt, cruise, and audio controls has been added to the list of standard features to increase the Sport Trac's luxury quotient.
Other new standard features include front fog lamps and a composite-material cargo box. On the options front, the Ford Sync voice-activated entertainment and communications system, which enables drivers to control the audio system and cell phones using voice commands, will become available late in the model year.
Other than that, a long list of standard features carries over from the previous year, resulting in a functional and well-appointed vehicle that fits right in with today's trend of out-of-the-ordinary vehicles. The Sport Trac can comfortably seat five passengers in its roomy cabin, thanks to a 60/40 split rear bench seat. Or, with the back seat folded down, the Sport Track provides more than 44 cubic feet of cargo space.
The exterior cargo bed, which was lengthened in 2007, can carry another 37.5 cubic feet of cargo. The cargo bed comes equipped with three storage bins with weather-resistant lids to protect all types of gear.
For its standard powerplant, the 2008 Explorer Sport Trac receives a 210-horsepower, 4.0-liter V6 engine, which links to a five-speed automatic transmission. As an option, drivers can choose the 292-horsepower, 4.6-liter V8, which links to a six-speed automatic.
The Sport Trac rides on a fully independent suspension, which provides both durability and a smooth ride, and its stiff frame improves handling on and off the road. As in the previous year, the 2008 Sport Trac comes in XLT and Limited trims, both equipped with the AdvanceTrac traction control system with Roll Stability Control.

The 2008 Sport trac Adrenalin V8 is a great little city truck. Small enough for my wife to feel comfortable driving and parking. Lots of power, comfortable with Front and rear independent suspension. Brakes are very good. Steering is concise . The cabin is quite easy to read gauges.

This vehicle was a great one. It hit a moose and they put it right back on the road and I drove it 15,000 more miles before I traded it for the 2010 Fusion. Mileage was decent as long as I stayed on the highway. Greatest observed was 24 MPG, worst was 10 MPG. Dec 04, 2010

Absolutely loved this vehicle. Had watertight compartments recessed into the bed for storage, a hard watertight bed cover that covered the whole thing. Even a cigarette lighter power point in the bed. Microsoft Sync is awesome. Seamlessly shifting Auto 4x4 that you couldnt even feel when it shifts and traction control with roll stability control make it a very safe on icy roads. Independent suspension means that you hardly even feel all the washboard bumps on gravel roads.Nov 03, 2010

I have had this ruck for over a year now. Other than it's great looks, it has a smooth and quiet ride. The interior is comfortable and well layed out. Some people do not like the door pulls but I think they are unique and stylish. The V8 is not quite what the concept is but with some upgrades it's showing great potential.

The 4.0 lacks a little in passing power, but has enough torque for most off-roading and light towing. The truck responds well to ECU and exhaust upgrades. Ground clearance is as good as most mid-size pickups, but I'm adding a 2.5" suspension lift for more height. The interior is phenomenal, far, FAR superior to any other mid-size. badass truck. mine is red and all wheel drive.. it has all the features that you dont need but are still nice to have. runs ok. could be better.. im looking into o roush supercharger and intake kits as well as exhaust and upgrading the 20 inch wheels to 22s or better. it is absolutely gorgeous the bodykit is sick. the black interior is awesome. cost is a little high at 35,000 all the way up through 40. it is a very well built truck for those who dont need a heavy duty truck but somethin just to haul the occasional lowes trip. great truck/suv Sep 24, 2008
