Sharing a platform with the LR3 rather than the Range Rover, the 2008 Land Rover Range Rover Sport offers a blend of high-end comfort with sporty handling and off-road capability. The smallest SUV in Land Rover's arsenal, the Sport features two different engine choices, full-time 4WD with high and low range gearing, a Dynamic Response Suspension System (for rollover protection), and a Terrain Response System, which adapts gearing, throttle response and ride height for five different road conditions.
Changes for the 2008 Range Rover Sport focus mainly on power assets. An 8-way power passenger seat joins the driver's, and power tilt and telescopic steering and power folding mirrors are also now standard. The SUV fits five in two rows. The rear row split-folds 65/35 and folds flat, offering up to 71 cubic feet of storage space in addition to the standard roof rack. Each trim comes with its own engine. The HSE features a 300-hp, 4.4-liter V8, while the Supercharged gets a 4.2-liter V8 that hits 390-hp. Both are paired with a 6-speed automatic with three modes -- automatic, sport, and manual. The HSE starts out with power features, 19-inch wheels, a navigation system, and sunroof, while the Supercharged adds 20-inch wheels, heated seats, satellite radio and DVD player, and the Dynamic Response System. ABS brakes, traction and stability control, parking sensors, and six airbags (including side curtain for both rows) augment the solid and safe reputation of the Land Rover.
Customers and critics appreciate the easy handling and steering of the 2008 Range Rover Sport, admitting that it is fun to drive, while also retaining practicality for family use. Its offroad capability ranks high as does the DRS system. Low fuel economy (12/17 mpg) and somewhat limp acceleration are blamed on the heavy weight of the SUV. Other complaints focus on a somewhat harsh ride, difficult in operating the power rear hatch, and the need for premium fuel in both engines.

This range rover sport drives like new. I love the handeling and the position behind the wheel. The beige interior looks great and the mini cooler in the center console is a welcome amenity in southern California since it hold about 3 cans and some energy bars. I love the handsfree bluetooth calling and the voice command function. The premium sound system is so great it sometimes makes you turn it down because you think you hear something, but it's an instrument in the song that you will never hear in any other car, even with the same sound system, Range rover designers placed the speakers in a way that it really sounds fantastic.
The air ride system ads to the already very solid drive of the RR-S. There is no squeaking when driving over a speed bump. Apr 14, 2014

I love the sophistication and class that it portrays. It rides above the rest with a firm control of the road, even in the outback of Australia if you please. The interior ride is smooth and has a nice amount of room. The kids can even watch some DVD's if they like with the entertainment system. The gas mileage is rediculous
It is a bigger car than I am used to
leg room is less than desirable
The breaks are too sensitive and in turn make's
breaking kind of jerky
But the car is high performance for an SUV
And the handling is very responsive for it's size

i may be biased over here, i probably am, but everything about this car is perfect....
the problem i have with it is that options cost too much!
i left out the GPS cos they were asking for 5 grand extra...im thinking "this is nuts" just cos im getting such a nice car does not mean i should splurge on costly accessories if there are cheaper, more reasonable alternatives, a good Top of the line GPS device will be about 400-500 dollars. So forget the extra 5 grand....buy a portable GPS device and spend the rest on a worthier cause....
in terms of performance, its pretty good, its not the sort of car you want to go on drag races with, but it has a kick to it, floor the accelerator and the car will prepare itself for a second, then lurch forwards as if it was kicked by some sort of giant footballer....
it has a very good sound...after a good drive, the car usually has a series of cracking noises for a few minutes, i guess its cooling itself down or something, the security is tops aswell, 2 days ago i left the car unlocked in the driveway and a few minutes later it Blared the horn loudly so as to notify me that i has not locked it, alarm is perfect and parking sensors do the job very well, you can generally get within 30 cm of obstacles safely
a good suggestion, however, is to read the handbook....there are alot of things that you may need to know in order to drive safely...like how to use HDC(hill descent control) and Terrain Response....Also washing the car, it is imperative that you read that cos you could end up ruining the paint job of the car...
I'm sure i've not covered everything about this car so feel free to add some input and any views you have on the car..

Took delivery of a Tonga Green RRS on 23 May '08. Waited 5 months for the car, I ordered it on 28th Dec '07. It's amazing and well worth the wait, love the car, the colour, the performance, in fact everything, it's great. It is a company car however if I was ever looking to buy my own car I'd have no doubt in buying a RRS.
