Drop-top driving gets even better in 2007, thanks to the Mazda MX-5 Miata's new power retractable hardtop, which raises and lowers at the push of a button. The lightweight, three-section hardtop folds and stows itself into the MX-5 Miata's truck in just 12 seconds. Better still, Mazda notes that the hardtop, when stowed, does not compromise trunk space. A new Z-fold soft convertible top is also available. Now in its 16th year, the MX-5 Miata roadster continues the tradition of the two-seat roadster that originated with the classic British roadsters of the 1950s and '60s. The MX-5 Miata received a complete redesign in 2006, so other than the addition of the power hardtop, Mazda didn't make any major changes to the Miata for 2007. The MX-5 Miata is available in SV, Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trim packages, with the power hardtop available on the Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring packages (all three packages are also available with the soft top). Power is provided by a 166-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder with variable valve timing. A five-speed manual transmission is standard on the SV and Sport packages, while the Touring and Grand Touring versions get a six-speed manual. A six-speed automatic is optional with some packages. Also available is a Sport AT six-speed shifter, which can be controlled with either the shift knob or shift panels behind the steering wheel. Standard features for the rear-wheel-drive Miata include power windows, dual front and side airbags, power exterior mirrors, a glass rear window, anti-lock brakes, and a CD player. The Sport package adds air conditioning, while the Touring package adds power door locks, and the Grand Touring package adds leather seats, among other features. Early reviews for the 2007 MX-5 Miata have been generally positive, with the Miata's styling, interior design, acceleration, sportiness, and responsive handling drawing positive comments. On the downside, some drivers noted that the Miata's fuel mileage is not as good as expected.

The third generation of the Miata is my favorite. It has a somewhat larger cockpit making it more comfortable to use as a daily driver. It really makes little difference wheather you choose the soft top or the Power Retractable Hard Top (PRHT). Having owned both I prefer the soft top over the hard top when in its closed position but both were generally driven that way as our motto has always been: Why go thru life with the top up!.
The third gen has two models Gen 3 and Gen 3-1. 2006-2008 have a smaller opening for the air intake and maybe mimicks the first gen front end. 2009-2015 have a larger air intake as well as some other engine features but the performance is really the same.
I must also say that driving the third gen gives me more pleasure than the following generation and I cant seem to put my finger on exactly why. It may be that the fourth gen cockpit seems more cramped than all previous generations. Having owned all three my wife and I rank them as follows. Gen 3 is our first pick. Generations one and two come in as second equally. Fourth gen has more power but our least favorite.Aug 18, 2023

I think that this is a n amazing vehicle for young people who like the whole idea of a fun driving experience it is a great handling vehicle with a peppy 163 horse power and a respectable 140 lb-ft of torque driven by a 5 speed manual and an automatic with 6 speeds going to the rear wheels. the styling of this year is one of my favorite as is the reliability. it has all the features of the older ones that made the Miata such a hit, they are usually lightly driven as mostly a 3rd car, and rarely driven in bad weather. also most of them are babied during their lives, Ive had 3 Miatas and all have been very reliable no matter what their ageOct 28, 2020

Flew halfway across the USA to pick up this car, drove It home 1,200 miles. It was the most enjoyable, lightly packed and exhausting road trip Ive ever done. I had the removable club hard top which was quiet, could talk, listen to podcasts, and relax in relative comfort and still enjoy the tight, twisty roads through the mountains. 1,200 miles in, no complaints.Aug 12, 2020

I bought my first MIata in 1991, the second year they were on the market and still had those flip up headlights. I drove it for 11 years, and sold it in 2002--and only because I was moving to Sydney, Australia and couldn't take it with me. It had 103k miles on it, and still drove like a dream. I never had a single problem with it mechanically. Mazdas, from my experience, are well-built, a great value for money, and I believe a quite underrated brand of cars.
When I returned to the US in 2011, I was older (47), but yearned for the days before my 9-year stint overseas. While it was completely impractical (you can't really haul much of anything in it and there is only room for 2), I found myself in Mazda Oakland looking at this car--with just 19k miles on it, and even though it was 4 years old, still had that new car smell to it. I decided to take it for a test drive, instead of the Mazda 3 that I came to drive, and once I was behind the wheel, I was hooked.
I've had many joyful experiences in this car in the 3 years that she's been mine. One of my first dates with my husband was driving through the Marin Headlands in my Miata, on a gorgeous, sunny day--with the top down, and holding his hand for the first time. Or up to Napa Valley for a weekend of wine tasting. Or to Yosemite in a freak October snowstorm. This car made my middle-aged life feel a little more frivolous, a little more fun. It was the one thing I owned that made no sense for the life I had and I didn't care because every time I got behind the wheel, I was transported back to 1991--a 27 year old driving his first convertible, and feeling young and with a life that was full of possibilities. I am only parting with it now because marriage has brought another car into my life, and with my parent's car (oddly enough--a Mazda 3)--we have one too many cars and my Miata is, well, the most dispensable.
You will love this car. You will have fun times, romantic times, great memories. Just none of them about going to Home Depot.Feb 01, 2015

The car is so nice to drive that you don't really know how nice it is. I had to rent a car for about a week, it was a brand new Chevy Impala with less than 100 miles when I picked it up. Fresh and clean with all the bells and whistles, I kind of thought that the domestic market had improved. Upon my return, I got back in my car (the Miata) and felt the difference before I left the parking lot. It was amazing. Later when I tried to trade it in at the same dealer I bought it from for $16,400.00, they offered me under $10,000. I still owe $15,250.00 on it.
They (Flood Mazda) wanted me to take a loss of $5,000.00, as if it were nothing, and the car was 100 % better than the car they delivered. Aug 19, 2014

This car was perfect for me as it is sporty, really cute and so easy to drive and take care of. It does have a fairly new battery 2/13) and low profile tires were replaced in 3/12.
I've taken it on a few road trips and it handles well for long distance driving. If you are looking for a car that shows off your love of sports cars at an affordable price, this is the model for you.Nov 11, 2013

I really like this car and will love it, this week will be week two. I feel very comfortable with the car and it's handling characteristics but am not impressed by it's lack of power and it's heavy road feel. It does have a 50/50 weight distribution but the front end is lacking something. To the dealer's credit, they are willing to make it right. I will keep you posted and upload some pictures. I love the highland green color. Now that I have had this car for over 3 months, it has developed an issue with the check engine light, I had my buddy do a system scan and there were no codes being thrown, he reset it and it was OK for about 30 days, it popped up again and stayed lit for about 4 days and went out, came back on about a week later. I have checked everything and the diagnostic was run again. No issues or codes.
This car was used and registered in Florida and sent up to Rhode Island to an auction. I think that these issues were there all along. I have finally gotten the codes for the check engine light and it's the thermostat, one would think that it's an easy fix but, in fact, it's hairy. The placement is located on the drivers side of the engine, towards the bottom. the price from parts stores varies from $29.00 to a high of $56.00 I have not checked with the dealer prices but I know the are high. I am not happy with Flood Mazda at all. What NAPA did for me for free (diagnostic) would cost $99.00 there. The car is a looker, but still has the squirrely feel. My son drove it for the first time and was literally all over the road. I'm used to it now but it is and remains an issue.
Many things have been done to this car to get it right. The tires were replaced and high speed balanced. The balancing that was done by the dealer was not properly done with one full ounce difference being put to the right side and 2/3 of and oz. in the other wheel.
The car was keyed badly several weeks ago, I opted to do a full body wrap to make it easier to fix if it should happen again. Security has been increased to catch the weasel who did this awful thing.May 12, 2013

For the price you will not fine a finer piece of automobile machinery made in the planet. This is a true sports coupe. WIth the cabriolet aspect adding more fun to a car that is already the most fun car to drive.
Just read the reviews, consistently a top 10 car of the year on Motor Trend. Positively reviewed by every automobile authority. Top Gear's review questions why someone would ever opt for a BMW Z4 instead of the Mazda MX-5.
I purchased the car used (single owner, florida lady owned) and consider the decision the best value for the dollar transaction I've ever made.

I now own a MX5 coupe roadster - hard top convertible. The lid goes down in 12 seconds and I`ve had many looks of amazement as most people think it`s a `hard top`. You do have to rev it pretty hard to make it sound like a sports car. Very practical for everyday use and quite economical for a sports car.Dec 19, 2008

What can I say? A dream come true.
Great performance. Not impressive power (126 hp), but who needs it with just 1050kg? Very easy-to-manage top. No problems with rain or washing machines. Consumption is quite good, too.
No problem at all until now (1 year, 20000 km). The trunk is, let's say, enough for two people for a weekend. More than that is... difficult ;) And of course, make your girl forget "another" Ikea visit ^_^

30,000 miles with nary a problem... 28-32mpg, even quick enough to get out of its own way. Great for autocross, or on dirt roads in the wilderness. Even fits all my camping gear. Modern build quality with the fun factor of the old Miatas. Love the red.

That was my favourite ever, the huge "smile factor machine". I had to

have the same in US but Chicago weather + 1 hour commute made me
change my mind (R32 4WD). The Miata was for me the soul of a sport
