A successor to the Volkswagen Cabrio, which itself was a successor to the Rabbit Cabriolet, the 2007 Volkswagen Eos hardtop convertible coupe is the latest addition to the German automaker's lineup. And although it borrows elements from both the Jetta and the Golf, the Eos is a unique creation, starting with its eminently impressive five-piece hardtop roof.
The Cabrio's roof was a multi-layer cloth affair that was either manually or power operated (depending on the trim package). The Eos goes that one better (way better, in fact), with a five-piece automatic folding hardtop that stows neatly in the trunk in just 25 seconds. It's a fascinating operation that many drivers are certain to watch over and over, just for the fun of it. The hardtop roof also has an integrated panoramic power glass sunroof with tinted glass and a manual sunshade, so drivers have a number of roof up/down/shaded/open-to-the-wind options.
Two trim packages are available -- the standard Eos and the Eos 2.0T. The standard engine is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that generates 200 hp, while a 3.2-liter, 250-hp VR 6-cylinder is available as an option. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, while a six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic and a Direct-Shift Gearbox is optional for the 2.0T trim package.
The list of standard features is a long one, and includes CFC-free air conditioning, an anti-theft alarm system, cruise control, electric rear window defroster, a remote locking system, power windows, power exterior rearview mirrors, AM/FM/CD/MP3 eight-speaker audio system, front and side airbags, and traction control. The 2.0T trim package adds such features as a dual-zone climate control system, a multi-function trip computer, a 12-way power seat for the driver, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
So far, drivers seem to be impressed with the car, with one calling it "the best convertible I have ever seen." The five-piece retractable hardtop, naturally, is a focal point of the positive comments, and deservedly so. But the car's luxury features, handling, craftsmanship, and styling have also been singled out by impressed drivers. Some professional reviewers, however, have been less than kind, particularly in reference to the car's styling, with one reviewer calling the car "dumpy and squat" with the roof up. Guess you'd better just keep the top down, then . . . and that's not such a bad thing.

The Eos is one my favorite cars.The first one I bought had a timing chain tension break and it cost me a lot of money so I had to sue Volkswagen If you get one make sure you check it out it the problem from 2001 to 2009. Be careful and also make sure you check the oil leaks and when the top goes down one of the boots sometimes doesn’t work..Aug 21, 2023

VW EOS is an amazing hard-top convertible couple.
The car has a beautiful design and a decent power train with a good balance between performance and fuel economy.
The hard-top opening/closing operation is a visual show and will attract eyes and admiration.
The only downside is the back seat might not be so comfortable for long trips, although it fits 2 adults with no problems.

This was my first hardtop convertible, after a few convertibles. It is the first gen of its model. I've kept up with all the maintenance at all vw dealerships. I have been hit on the drivers side a couple of times but no internal damage.Jan 21, 2014

We got this car for my wife just to save money on gas, it gets 27MPG int he city and 32MPG on the highway. It's also quicker than I had anticipated, for a 2 liter four cylinder it hauls ass.Jul 11, 2013

Great car overall. Lots of power, 6-speed is fun and effortless to drive. Still enough room to carry 3 passengers with you. Never had any problems with the top or the car in general. Instrument cluster in the middle started to fade around 60k, but the VW certification paid for the repairs.Aug 26, 2012

After being a 'mom' for over 30 yrs, i decided to treat myself. I am very practical, so needed an economical car, inexpensive, speed, looks, convertible, 4 seats etc. I found it, 'THE EOS'. I LOVE my car
This car is so much fun to drive. Trucks can't stop me from heading onto the highway. i can just punch my gas peddle, and away i go. Great stress release by driving with the top down and listening to loud music....Apr 15, 2012

Fun car in the corners and I love it with the top down for an evening drive. The quick take offs at a light are great. I put synthetic oil in on the first oil change and uped the MPG by 1.5. I do see average of 30 MPG on the high way.Aug 15, 2010

Very reliable, great options with the sunroof AND convetible top. My dogs enjoy the back seat! Road/tire noise is rediculous! The Goodyear tires have to go! Stereo is ok but not the quality of my wife's VW Tiguan! Gas mileage in the 30's with the top up, 28 down.Jun 27, 2010

I ordered this car the first day it was available in the US. I waited over 8 months for it, should have figured something is up when I was at the dealer 3 times the first month. 3 years later... that number is now 39 visits and counting. When the car works, its fun to drive... however, that is a rare occasion. I have had to replace 2 tires and the brakes and rotors disintegrated well before 20k miles. Bellissima auto con una qualità costruttiva eccezionale. Unica coupè cabrio con il tetto panoramico apribile in cristallo. Il motore diesel garantisce prestazioni accettabili con consumi veramente contenuti. Buon bagagliaio, soprattutto quando il tetto è chiuso. 150 horsepower with 1,4 tons is enough to get an insane start.

Great accel n handling, nice interior. Top speed about 240 - 245. 0 - 100 in 7s. I like this car...small, fast and nice..6 speed DSG. Very dynamic. And cabrio..i love them...summer car. I can recommend it to everyoneJun 24, 2009

I felt like I should please myself at some point in my life by getting a convertible. Being on the practical side, I wanted a hard top, not cloth. Since a Mercedes SLK was too pricey (newest ones) or too ugly (old ones) and could only seat two, and since Peugeots and Renaults were too small or too ugly, I had a look at the VW Eos. Volvo C70 was too pricey, heavier and had worse performance, so I didn't have any doubts once I'd tried the Eos and been seduced. Been enjoying it for nearly two years (and 2 summers) so far. One inconvenient: when the weather is nice, I don't bike around anymore, I just drive with the top down.Sep 19, 2008

A great and fun car for those who love convertibles, but like the security of a coupe, and don't want to sacrifice the sunroof(which is huge).

It is a fantastic car to drive and not only that it's also quite unique as not many people have them, especially with the sports suspension and 18" Chicago alloys. If someone is looking to buy a tin-top convertible then I would definately recommend this car. It also has a sliding sunroof which is a nice in-between mod for the summer.Jan 28, 2008

2007 Candy White Eos, Cornsilk Leather - Delivery date: June 18, 2007. Current KMS: 11000.
I ordered this vehicle in November 2006 - replacing my 2003 20th Anniversary edition GTI.
My Eos is the best VW I've ever owned (4 brand new - 12 in total). I checked every box on the order form (18 Samarakand wheels, luxury package, windblocker, blah blah).
At 11k - I can report NO rattles or squeeks - my car is bolted together very solid. There have been no leakes either - however, if the car it/has raining/snowing, there are no rain channels in the roof design, so water run off with the windows down (even a centementre) will allow a cascade of water onto the door (and window switches).
Stereo is solid - I opted for the dealer to install an aftermarket ipod adaptor in the glove box - works well enough but I can't contol it fully from the dash unit.
Had the windows tinted at the dealer - reasonably good job (had checked Vortex on pointers before) - apparently is was difficult but it looks great.
I've had the car 7 months and it still gets a lot of attention (not to many on the road still - the exclusivity is nice). I paid full sicker and I have not regrets.
The DSG is great - most of my driving is urban (downtown toronto). I find that it can get 'snappy' sometimes but for the most part its great. The padel controls come in really handy.
I dislike the stadard rubber. The car has lots of power and I find the wheels break loose very easily. Come spring, stickier tires will be put on the car to improve launch control and cornering.
Coming from my 20th Anniversary GTI - the ride is much more compliant. Not nearly as harsh and more bearable for day to day driving.
No issues with the roof mech. The bumber sensors are great.
The cornsilk leather colour is difficult to keep clean.
I have not had to take it to the dealer once for any service related issues (a first for me with a VW in the first 10k).
I live in a condo with underground parking so the car 'thaws' at night. I have had 2 incidents where there has been ice rain and when I tried to unlock the car, the windows did not 'nudge' town to permit access. I managed to get the door open, but upon closing, the window rested against the roof strut. No biggy but I had a moment of concern.
There is an area in the boot that has warnings to not put items in that location. I found out the hard way when I left my Gucci sun glasses there. Note: Roof crushes Gucci.
I'd recommend the Eos to anyone. I looked at the 3 and the C70 and the A4. Money for fun + wow factor of the Eos = satisfaction.

Used car with engine part removed
I bought it on July 4, 2020, in Phoenix. Az & I wasn’t told until after I drove it home that the family member who I bought a 2007 VW EOS on 7/4/2020 and wasn’t told until after I drove the car home that the family member who detailed it didn’t “put the turbo sensor back in”. —anyone have an idea why? And how can I get it replaced &/or repaired, because the seller is just saying it was bought AS-IS
