"Awesome" is frequently the word used to describe this car, but not "awesome" in the way a teenager uses the word but "awesome" in the way someone who can actually afford what amounts to a German-engineered, (barely) street-legal race car.
The M5's V-10 engine produces 500 horsepower and goes from zero to 60 in a hair-raising 4.7 seconds, according to independent test drivers. The M5 is built on the 5-series platform, but some of the controversial changes to that line of cars have missed the M5.
"(T)he M5 still stands out as one of the least controversial BMWs designed under Chris Bangle. It's a chunky piece, with a wide, low stance that spells presence with a capital P," wrote one automotive journalist. "The nineteen-inch wheels wear Michelin Pilot Sport footwear, 255/40 up front and 285/35 at the rear."

This car is soooo much fun to drive, gives you more than 500Bhp, if you dont like speed,,,, avoid this car. you can still ride it every single day. its almost perfect. it look nice all the time, when you drive the SMG gearbox you cannot go back to normal gearbox, the only solution is to buy manuel instead. i really enjoy my ride. thats it,,,, nothing less nothing more. ;)

Fantastic all rounder. Build quality is great, performance is brilliant 5 liter V10 8350RPM redline enough said.The single clutch gearbox feels like BMW has done the most un-German thing possible; Cutting Corners. Its dimwitted and jerky in slow city driving and very uncomfortable. other than that it feels like car half its size. Styling is a bit too serious for me but hey they're German. Cost of ownership is astronomical ($300 oil changes) and you will struggle to do better than 18mpg hwy. Other than the gearbox and gas mileage its the most fun you can have with 4 doors.Aug 15, 2011

•Performance - acceleration: Great, braking:High Performance 600 degree brakes, handling: Heavy German build but good on corners.
•Build Quality - has it needed repairs?: Yes, the common problem now with BMW car wheels is that they develop internal cracks. This caused the tyre to blow out and the rim to shatter.
•Appearance - Outside is obviously a large 4 door sedan so it is big on the build.
•Cost of Ownership - gas: V-power, fricken expensive. 500km to a tank
•Fun Factor - is this car fun to drive?: Always, the gear changes are very powerful and wheelspins all the way up to 4th at times when the engine is warm.Mar 31, 2010

awesome in every way but not for the gear box. the down shift is really really fast. but shifting up a gear is really slow. big horse power low torque waste of gas. Rear wheel drive = bad start. awesome lumbar support.Nov 30, 2009

The M5 is unlike any car I've ever driven. It is an
extension of your body and it responds to you
instantly. I just put Michellin Sport 2's on and it
handles even better if that's possible. The only
criticism I have is with iDrive which is slow and not
very user friendly. The car has plenty of power (500
