In its last year, the 2005 Ford Excursion received only the tiniest of cosmetic tweaks. The end of the road had come for the Excursion, just as it did for all of its fellow dinosaurs. In a world of rising fuel prices, the gas-gulping Excursion just wasn't making its sales quotas anymore.
Four trims were available for the 2005 Excursion, XLS, XLT, Eddie Bauer, and Limited. The Eddie Bauer trimline offered a range of luxury extras with a sporty feel; the Limited was flashier, with more chrome. Buyers could choose rear-wheel drive, or optional four-wheel drive. The Excursion's 4WD option was marketed for suburban safety, though, rather than for all-terrain versatility; you weren't likely to want to take this landwhale off-road.
When it came to roominess, the Excursion gave new meaning to the 'full-size' in 'full-size SUV'. Its overall length was 226.7 inches, with a width of 79.9 inches. The Excursion seated 9, with ample legroom and headroom for all, and had a cargo capacity of 146.4 cubic feet.
The Excursion came off the line with a 5.4 liter overhead cam V-8 that delivered 255 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque; buyers could upgrade to a 6.8 liter overhead cam V10, with 310 horsepower and 425 lb.-ft. of torque, or go for even more power with a 7.3 liter V-8 turbodiesel option that put out 250 horsepower and 505 lb.-ft. of torque.

Any and all Excursions should cost no more then maybe $8000.00 to $10,000.00. Why you ask; because if you get in an accident and it’s damages are more then $10,000.00 the insurance will total it! Again you ask how do you know? Well, since you asked I’ll answer, I know because I was in an accident that was mainly in my right fender, bumper, battery compartment and some A/C parts. Somehow at the dealership my windshield got cracked? I know that it wasn’t cracked because I have pictures of my Excursion when I crashed. Geico said 5 years ago that the $12,000.00 of repairs was $2000.00 over the value of the Excursion. I don’t pull any boats and I have never gone four wheel driving. I have less than 1% of rust over the entire vehicle. There were no oil leaks. I had to dispute the Geico appraiser about the oil leaks for a month. I went as far as to tell him to pressure wash the engine and run it for several days just so I can make him eat his words. In the end Geico only gave me just over $8000.00. May 13, 2024

This 2005 vehicle almost looks new with a perfect finish. It has spent years in the south with no salt exposure. The interior leather seats have been well-maintained with no wear. The Diesel engine was smooth running and the air suspension system provides a great ride given the age and weight of the SUV. The price seemed reasonable as we are familiar with the diesel model, having had a 2000 one.
There was no hesitation in deciding to purchase it on the spot. It seemed a better choice over other large SUV’s we’ve tried such as the diesel Tourag, BMW and Suburban.Jun 28, 2022

The truck looks awesome, specifically when we matched up larger tires on the wheels. The only flaw I have ever seen with this truck was the engine. The 6.0PSD is a complete pile of crap. From the EGR, to the headstuds, to the PITA to get the engine pulled (pulling the entire chassis off the frame)...the maintenance on this truck sucks. Now, would I but it again? HECK YES. This truck clobbered a deer with no damage. This truck has been hit 3 times and each time, the kids didn't even know what had happen. This truck is a TANK. I pulled a 31ft travel trailer from MD to SC and averaged 18mpg. I didn't even have to stop for gas, thanks to the 44gallon tank.Feb 19, 2015

Our Ford Excursion has been the perfect family automobile- never any mechanical problems, well maintained with regular oil-changes, tune-ups etc. The interior is excellent and appears new. We always felt very safe and people consistently asked how we kept our car looking brand new.Jun 09, 2011
