Its a fantastic and reliable truck that can handle anything you throw at it. If you get the 6.0 diesel its also decent on fuel economy. The 4×4 is capable as all hell and its got enough room for the family and some friends!May 12, 2021

The excursion as a whole is one of the best 3/4 ton suv ever built. This is not a luxury suv at all in ride comfort. It was built to haul people and to pull something very heavy at the same time. This truck still comes with a lot of creature comforts like leather power seats moonroof Bluetooth and other things at all make for a luxury car without the road quality. The gasoline V8 in this SUV very under powered for as heavy as it is but can still get the job done but not to the same degree as the V 10 or the diesel version. Overall this SUV will do almost anything you need to do minus giving you a good ride for it being a three-quarter ton truck it rides like a truck not an SUVApr 08, 2021

I like almost everything about the vehicle, lots of positives, like, one of the safest rides on the road, the roof/cab assembly is designed to stay together on full roll over, it weighs around 6,800 lbs, so wind/storms don't affect it as adversely as like the effect of wind on other SUV. Its well built, rides great on the road, plenty of room.. You do need to understand and get used to driving it, its like being in a tank, but has a good turning radius, especially for a large vehicle. I personally prefer the gas over the diesel, easier and cheaper to maintain, with the exception of the transmission fluid flush, I perform all maintenance on the vehicle. Average full maintenance material cost is around 60.00, not including the tranny flush,( I have that done at a local dealership for around $100.00) The major con is the fuel consumption, as long as you don't push it it is not bad in town, around 12-14 mpg, open road- around 16-18 mpg. if you push it, it likes gas, however, it does readily respond, nothing underpowered about it. I did upgrade to severe duty brake pads, and installed the banks air intake and exhaust system. If it does not sell, soon it will be getting the Banks automind installed, which should held performance and mileage even more. By the way, lots of glass, had the windows tinted, the a/c will freeze you out of the vehicle now on a road trip. And I strongly recommend the floor liners, especially around kids- they work well!!Jun 08, 2014

I think I've owned then all: Broncos, F150-F350 Dualleys, Expeditions, Gas engines and Diesels, Suburban's, Yukon's, Blazer's, Grand Cherokees-Wagoner's and 6 Excursions. I have kept this truck because it was the last year of the 7.3 Diesel (it was an option when the 6.0 came out) Ive owned it for 6.5 years and haven't had any regrets. Change the oil (all 17.5 quarts w rotella) ad fuel conditioner, keep the tires aired up washer fluid full and you are on your way. The a/c in this truck has been better than any of the other trucks along with the brakes (front pads last a real 60k). Over those years I have changed the injection pump, tires, front ball joints, radiator, several fuel filters, K&N air filter system, Custom rims and tires, 3 rows of seats along with adding a leveling kit and lift as well (re-arched and added lief to the front and rear springs and still rides and drives great). My son was playing competitive soccer so we traveled all over Fl. in safety and comfort. Between games we could watch movies on the entertainment system, take naps and relax. No worries of bad weather, bad drivers, not being able to bring company and equipment, coolers, chairs, tents and much more. My wife dosen't sent like to park it (but she does) she really likes it on the road. Its nice when you can drive to Tampa-rock ledge-Miami and have no worries about fuel.
This truck is more than capable off-roading and towing- something I havent done much of. This has been a commuter truck with only 130,000 miles. Engine is good for 300,000 plus.
I am sure enough said. Have son going for his masters degree so thinking of getting him a newer car/truck as a gift.Apr 23, 2014

I dont use this truck very much do to the cost of fuel. It has a V10 gas burner engine and is four wheel drive. Its great for hauling things and for its vast cargo space inside. Beautiful truck with custom wheels.Jul 17, 2013

Well, overall the Excursion is a workhorse, used by many law enforcement, fire departments and Emergency Medical Service companies all over the US and Canada. I particularly enjoy the pickup, speed and towing capacity of this vehicle, however it has its cons as I have mentionedJul 11, 2013

My only gripe is that Ford stopped making them. It is a great vehicle, and the words it won't fit doesn't happen often. Toodles around town fine and safe because nobody wants to mess with it. A great car for a growing family.Sep 28, 2012

The perfect SUV - tows the 10,000 lb boat, hauls the family safely and aggravates greenies...what's not to like? The V10 is a fantastic motor - shifts well with the 4R100 transmission. Gas mileage is a bit dismal - but the initial cost of diesel would have taken me 5 years of driving to even out. That's at 15mpg for the diesel and 11 for the V10 and 10k miles per year.Jul 29, 2009

I love this truck. its one of the most powerful ive ever seen. although its strong, tough, and has leather interior, its fuel economy sucks. it only gets 11.2 miles per gallon. it has never given me any engine difficulty with its v10 315 horse power engine. its the best truck ive ever ownedAug 28, 2008

FORD ITS ALWAYS A GOOD CAR AND TRUCK MANUFACTURERJan 01, 2008
Truck stalls at random times. Where it’s warmed up, cold start, driving, idling, in park, there’s no pattern. There’s no warning, it just goes from running perfect to off. Sometimes you can start it right back up, other times it takes 5-10 minutes. Two mechanics couldn’t figure it out. Trying to diagnose myself now.
Hello, I have a problem with my 5.4L 2003 Ford Excursion. It would run well, but while driving, it would just die on me. Wait 3 minutes, start it up again, then another 200 yards, it would die again. This happened to me three times on the freeway. There would be no consistency either, as it would just die at random times. Sometimes, if I start the car, the car would not start, it would just crank the engine, and I would have to wait a little longer to start it up again. In hopes of solving this problem, I went to my local mechanic, he scanned the car, but there was no code that showed up. So he guessed that it would be the spark plug. Then I went to another mechanic shop, no code showed up either, suggested he said that it was the fuel pump. So, I paid $445 (including parts and labor) for it to be changed, picked it up on Saturday August 1st, drove to my house with it working fine, then not even three days later, today, on Tuesday August 4th, the car died on me seven times. Filled with frustration, I don't want to spend more money trying to fix something that won't solve my problem, which is why I am turning to the internet in hopes of finding others who have/had the same problem and any suggestions on ways to fix it please. Any advice, help, and ways to solve this problem would be great.
Vehicle was towed to a Ford dealership after not starting at a gas station with Relay 303 chattering and Theft light Flashing Rapidly. Been there for over 3 months. PCM was sent to SIA Electronics for evaluation after being diagnosed as the problem. PCM tested and returned with clean bill of health. Mechanic is baffled. Batteries were both replaced and fuse 22 is fine (relay303 stops chattering when fuse 22 is pulled out). Please HELP...I need my Baby back....Thank you Skip Smith
