Volkswagen continued on a roll in 2004 with the Beetle by offering a new 1.9-liter turbodiesel engine that generated 100 hp (up from 90 hp the previous year). Not only did the turbodiesel (called the TDi) provide plenty of power when needed but it also got 46 mpg on the highway. It joined a lineup that included the 2.0-liter, 115-hp gas engine (delivered in the GL and GLS trim packages) and the 180-hp turbocharged 1.8T gas engine (in the Turbo S).
Other improvements included head curtain airbags, redesigned 16- and 17-inch wheels, and new exterior colors for the cabriolets, as well as a number of new options, such as OnStar service. Among the Beetle's standard features were power brakes, power heated mirrors, a lighted entry system, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, cruise control, air conditioning, power door locks, and an anti-theft alarm system.
For the most part, Beetle owners were passionate about their cars, despite its limited storage space in the trunk, limited legroom in the back seat, and comfort factor over long trips (though owners were happy with the car's comfort around town). Some noted problems with the sensors, which gave false alerts.

I bought this car as a fun weekend or part time commute vehicle. It is very comfortable , rides smooth and quiet. The gas mileage has been excellent, I very seldom use backseat, very small, wouldn't be comfortable as a family car. It has great acceleration as well
I have put 4000 miles on it in 2 years I've owned it. Never had any engine or major problems with anything. Has been a great car to own!Jul 28, 2014

I like the look of the New Beetle. Driving it is fun. But I knew when I bought it there would be problems. I bought an extended warranty and over $13,000 dollars went into the car in the 4 years I have owned it. Mar 05, 2014

I like everything about this car. Mostly, it's adorable. I always get comments on it. Over all, the car is great. We've done all the necessary updating and maintenance the car needed to be as perfect as it can get. It's a great around town car.Jul 12, 2013

I love this car because it's beautiful and fun to drive. It is built sturdy and it feels safe and comfortable. It is not a family car, it is only a fun car. If I were thinking of having maore than one child, I would not drive this car. It gives good gas mileage. I dislike, that after having it only a year, problems are arising and I know nothing of cars.Jan 05, 2011

I love my car. It is very easy to use and I feel comfortable driving it. The only problem I have had
with it was that the rear light is constantly popping
out and it does not have a fast enough pick up, if you
try gunning it when your in a problem, its very scary.
Rarely ever fill it. But there is NO trunk space or space
for more than 2 passengers unless they are under the

I love my car so much. It's so cute and i love that its small because its easy to park and its a great car to start on. It did have a couple problems with the trunk and the seat to get into the back when i first got it but i got it fixed while it was still under warranty, so all is good.Aug 15, 2008

I cannot find out what model Volkswagen New Beetle I have there are Four models. The GL, GLS, GLX, and Turbo S My 2004 Beetle Has a Back Wing, Automatic Windows, Automatic Sunroof, Power Locks, Fog Lamps, Leather interior. It has manual seats, and a monsoon Audio system. I'm pretty sure it is a 2.0 Liter, But i'm not very sure. Their are different variety's of them and in order for me to get parts I need to know! It also has an automatic transmission.
