2004 Hyundai Elantra Preview summaryImage

The 2004 Hyundai Elantra has one engine option: a 138 hp, 2.0 liter inline 4-cylinder engine. The standard 5 speed manual or the optional 4 speed automatic are the two transmissions available. Gas mileage is around 22-24 miles per gallon city miles and 34-36 highway miles. With gas mileage like that, this would make an excellent commuter car.

Air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and power locks a CD player, a trip computer, a leather steering cover and leather seats are all available on the 2004 Hyundai Elantra, either standard or optional. The 4 door GT adds the lineup in 2004. In case the worst happens, driver, passenger and side airbags are standard on all three trims.

Hyundais seem to get better and better, and according to some owner reviews, the 2004 Hyundai Elantra seems to be one of the best models yet. As has become standard, owners liked the gas mileage of the sedan, as well as the styling and many of the features. It seems to be a very reliable vehicle, with few major engine problems. However, it is a low-end vehicle and it has its problems. Resale value drops drastically, the interior lighting is not the greatest, and many of the aesthetic parts are made of plastic and break easily. However, for the money, the 2004 Hyundai Elantra really can't be beat.

I think the car is great perfect for my first car and the guy that sold it to me was very kind and made sure everything was okay on the car. The car runs smoothly as well , great customer service. Apr 28, 2024

It's fun, for what it is. It's not a penalty box like a lot of cars its size, and very communicative when driving about road condition, if you're about to lose traction, etc. I've driven a couple more expensive cars and the feedback through the pedals and steering wheel was really mushy compared to this car. And it's as dependable as a brick wall - most everything I've had to do has been routine maintenance, the rest was my own fault (hit a ditch in snow, needed a new front bumper). The bad part: Well, it's 11 years old right now, mine's an 04. It's good for what it is, but there are tons of ways it could be better. The 4-speed automatic is purely uninspiring and won't always downshift when you'd want it to just because there's only 4 gears, the car could use less body roll, and could use a bump in power.May 15, 2015

Overall good purchase, had the car for 8 years until the catalytic converter needed replacement and traded. Plus needed a truck or SUV type vehicle for more room. 04 Elantra served its purpose. I would definitely recommend this inexpensive gas saver especially during low gas prices.. Dec 30, 2014
