What owners say
"Overall, drivers appreciate the 2002 Mercury Sable for its reliability, spacious interior, and affordability, making it a solid option for families and new drivers. Many enjoyed the fuel efficiency and roomy trunk, while some noted minor issues like noise and awkward entry. Despite these drawbacks, the car's performance, particularly its power and handling, received positive remarks."
Now over 145,000 and still going strong. No major repairs other than the air conditioner blower. Still driving on the original drive belt and brakes and no sign of failure. The next planned service will be new struts. Everything you can ask for in a roomy comfortable car.
June 24, 2008I had to purchase a reliable car that had plenty of seats with leg room and abundant trunk space. I found what I needed in the Sable GS. Affordability and a comfortable ride. Also, I found that we could fit our entire family in the Sable and save approximately 30% on gas alone over our SUV.
March 25, 2008Good as a second car in the house. Runs good as long as you put 87 octane gas.

January 2, 2008Taurus or Sable top models with the larger Duratec motors are awesome. I STILL drive every day a 1999 Ford Taurus with almost 300K and it STILL is a reliable no problems other than normal things car. Friends have Sables with same engine , the newest in their collection is a Sable 2001. Of course we are people who ALWAYS stuck true blue to the manufacturers maintenance and lived in the SE and garaged so no rust or faded paint either. If you can buy either makes from some senior in FL or AZ with low mileage, grab it. For under 4500. in most cases it will be a heck of a buy. Good first car for teens great crash stats.
September 18, 2022I really like the car but I have trouble finding information about repairs.
May 3, 2008I've had this car for about a year. Along the way we have encountered a few problems, but nothing that can't be fixed.
May 31, 2008The 2002 Mercury Sable GS, for its size, has a quick launch, 27mpg highway, a little noisy, handles flat, awkward to get in (Im 62, 230lbs.), and the rearview mirror has GOT to relocate. Dead in the way. The backs of the back seats fold down for a 2 acre trunk, adjustable pedals for the height challenged, and the interior lighting is limited. If it didnt drive like a slot car, and cheap on gas, I wouldnt like it near as much.
