1999 Volkswagen EuroVan Preview summaryImage

After being underpowered for years, the EuroVan received a power boost for 1999. A 140-horsepower, 2.8-liter V6 engine was dropped into two new trim packages.

The EuroVan GLS came with such standard equipment as power windows, power door locks, cruise control, air conditioning, anti-lock brakes, traction control, and dual airbags. Heated front seats and a sunroof were among the options.

The EuroVan MV (Multivan) added a rear bench that converted into a bed and rearward-facing bucket seats in the middle row. The MV can also be outfitted to resemble the old Campmobile, with a refrigerator, bed, and pop-up roof.

Drivers appreciated the EuroVan's additional power, as well as its reliability, handling, roominess, and practicality. Some drivers noted problems with the vehicle, however, including problems with the electical system.

There's nothing "mini" about a Eurovan. Bernadette was found after years of looking for a weekend hauler for camping and fun. She's big enough to haul the Vespa or a bunch of friends and their gear for a trip to the mountains, the beach, or the city!Jul 10, 2010

First, i'm not experienced with other vans than this one, so it's a bit difficult to compare this to any other. Just briefly tested a toyota hiace, and yet i'd say it's better than this one. This is still very handy car to have; quite easy to handle, and easy to load cargo in to it. The pedals take some time to get used to because they feel somehow heavy/sticky. Other than that, i find the steering to be the most difficult thing to get used to; it's kinda like a mercedes-benz (just what people say, never drove one my-self), you have to correct the wheel to center position after each medium or hard turns =( It can be a little tricky and hectic in a city center at rush hour, at least for an unexperienced driver. Besides from that i'd say it's very steady to stear though! Also one would wish for more adjustments on seats. Performance how ever is average at most, when it comes to highway driving; you can barely accelerate at 80-90km/h, with 5th gear at least... The model i drove was with turbo, and yet the lack of performance. I don't remember the engine facts anymore detailed though =(Dec 23, 2007
