2001 Volkswagen EuroVan Preview summaryImage

An upgrade in power was the big news for the Volkswagen EuroVan in 2001. The workhorse of Volkswagen's fleet received a new 201-horsepower, 2.8-liter V6 engine, which helped dispell previous complaints that the EuroVan was underpowered. Also, the electronic stability control system, which was standard equipment for all EuroVans, was upgraded, and the van received new 16-inch alloy wheels, a premium six-speaker stereo system, and integrated fog lights, giving the front end a slightly different look.

As in previous years, both GLS and MV (Multivan) versions were available. The GLS came with a fairly extensive list of standard features, including air conditioning, power windows, power heated mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, anti-lock brakes, and an anti-theft alarm system.

The MV added a rear bench that converted into a bed and rearward-facing bucket seats in the middle row. The MV could also be outfitted to resemble the old Campmobile, with a refrigerator, bed, and pop-up roof.

The EuroVan's higher driving position, functional options, roominess, handling, and power upgrade all received positive comments from drivers. However, some noted that their EuroVans tended to spend a lot of time in the shop, resulting in expensive repairs.

Fun family adventure wagon if I can keep it moving. VW needed to put a much more durable transmission in the van. The seating arrangement for the kids is awesome in back, they can play games at the table, watch movies, do homework and the like. The pop up top works well for up to two people to sleep in.
