1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder Reviews, Pricing & Specs

What owners say
"Overall, owners really appreciate the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder for its stunning looks, enjoyable handling, and fun driving experience. Many drivers love the power and responsiveness, especially with the turbocharged engine, making it a thrilling ride. However, some drivers report significant reliability issues, with frequent repairs and parts availability becoming a major concern over time. The convertible top's tendency to leak is also a common drawback mentioned."
It handles great and it's quick off the line. it loves to burn the tires through 1st and 2nd gear. It's fun to drive and nice to look at. Gets about 30/31 mpg. Aftermarket parts are cheap and easy to come by.
July 11, 2009The eclipse is a beautiful car, and it handles phenomenally well in bad weather, but after a while, the cars are just ready to die and require maintenance. With the convertible top, you have to be concerned with leaking into the seat, but overall it's a beautiful car.
September 29, 2009I special ordered my Spyder in 1997 and I still absolutely love it. It is really sleek and is still the best looking Eclipse ever. The car has lots of power and handles great. The small turbo-charged engine is incredible. It has plenty of power and gets great mileage when I drive nice which is not very often ;).

October 17, 2008Beautiful car, and definitely one of my all time favorites. After falling in love with the small bump that was offset on the hood, I had to get one. It was always an awesome car and being able to have the top down and jump inside was a major plus.
July 14, 2012Newer style even for a 15 year old car, only bad thing is lifter tick that's hard to control, but runs well!
June 17, 200896-99 Eclipse nailed the bodystyle dead on. Its looks scream "I am a sports car". It is realtively responsive once the turbo builds boost. Too bad that's where the positive comments end. The car has spent more time on the shop lift than on the road. In 123000 miles it has received two transmission transplants, one engine transplant, one wiring harness transplant due to it catching on fire, 3 new convertible top motors, and the list goes on and on. Now it needs the convertible top frame needs replaced and Mitsu no longer sells parts. It leaks, too. What can I say.
February 7, 2008i got this car when i was 15 and drove it for about a year and a half. i miss it. it was an awesome first car
