This was my second car. Bought with 36000 miles on it and traded in with 89000 on it. The only bad thing about the car was slow acceleration. Was reliable. Catalytic converter went bad around 50000 miles. Had no other problems. Comfortable, nice looking small car.May 19, 2012

If you want a subcompact tank, this is it. It gets amazing gas mileage and actually performs pretty well. If you can put up with its ugliness its the perfect car to own. Very fun in a four speed. Word!Sep 29, 2009

I drove this car into the ground. No maintenance except brakes and oil changes. Clutch went out at about 80K miles. The little 1.2L engine kept on working. Jun 26, 2008

1988 Toyota Tercel 2 door Hatchback gas MPG problem
So i just bought this car off craigslist for a 1000 bucks, and it works great. it did have a problem, where the car turned off it would act as if it kept running, the mechanic said it was the carbourater gasket plate and he replaced it for 200 bucks, he also said it would help with my gas MPG, but it hasnt changed at all. I currently get about 190 miles out of a tank, i feel this is extreamly low, i was wondering if anyone could tell me how much i should be getting MPG wise with this car and what the problem might be? its a little shakey when it starts up. its a automatic transmisson, thanks.

I have a 1988 Toyota Tercel and it won’t idle and it’s a pain to start I have to constantly feather it to keep it alive And when you take off it hops up and down before it goes. I’ve adjusted the idle screws multiple times no effect It’s also a stick shift
