The 1970 Ford Mustang had several changes from the 1969 model. Changes included the return to two headlights, instead of the four featured in the '69, and the rear end got a bit of a butt lift, creating smoother lines for the American classic.
A popular Boss package, complete with whitewalls, was available in 1970. Along with the CJ 428 and SCJ 428, the line made for a great selection of powerful engines.
While there were major changes in the base models, if you were in the market for a 1970 Ford Mustang Shelby, the car you bought was probably made with the rest of the 1969s. Shelby had to push several of his cars from 1969 into the 1970 line due to an anticipated federally mandated push to make muscle cars more gas efficient and emissions careful.

Without a doubt, the 1969/1970 era of Mach I and Boss's will never be seen, nor matched again. This Pony stays in my garage and will be an even rarer breed in years to come. I'll let my four boys sort it out when I'm gone!Oct 08, 2014

Just riding around, everybody and their Mother wants to race. Racers from the xyz era agree they all have fast cars these days, but the fast cars we're built from the "Muscle Car" era, in my opinion. This one is at the end of that era. It runs a 10.03 all day long and it can do better if I change the diamond-tip points every 2-3 runs. Never got a "thumbs down" from even a Chevy lover! I once came out of the hole at 7200 rpm's and when the wheels hit the ground, my radiator cracked and shot anti-freeze all over my windshield! Pretty hard to stop when you can't see. Guys and gals, race 'em if you got 'em!Aug 31, 2014

I like the car because most of the people i hang around with enjoy the look of the car, the looks we get from others, and the way it sounds, i also enjoy all of that as well. The car will run just as good as a newer mustang with a roar at idle instead of a pur.Aug 29, 2013

I bought this car while I was in the Army. It was my first car and looking back I couldn't have chosen a finer car.
Now owned by a very smart guy who wouldn't sell this back for any amount, jerk.
I only regret that I don't still own this beauty as it is so extremely valuable today. This car would cost you today in even just reasonable shape from $50k and way up from there depending on a lot of factors.
In mint condition, all matching numbers this car can be in the $250k range at Barrett Jackson Auto Auctions AZ. everything is matching.Jan 28, 2013

I loved the thought of getting a classic convertible! I always wanted a convertible 1962 - 1964 convertible Impala, & now I've got this 1970 Mustang convertible. Since picking it up, waiting for the impala to drop in my lap won't be as bad of a wait!Dec 18, 2012

Great looking car, great gear sound. You need to get some bucks if you wan't to mantaing a good looking Mustang over the years.
Mustang 1970 is a unique pice of work from Larry Shinoda, for me is one of the best looking mustang of history, nowadays there's not a lot of this cars out there.Feb 22, 2012

Performance- very good- strong pull in 1st gear to 4800 rpm, shifts into 2nd at 55 mph, and covers the 1/4 mile in15 sec. This is a bone stock cast iron Windsor, with high flow intake and headers / H pipe for exhaust.
Build quality- built in Feb 1970 in Methuen NJ, it is typical of "Detroit quality" for the era... mediocre at best, but anvil tough design and materials.
Appearance- good straight rust-free condition, but needs fresh paint and some door dings removed. Interior immaculate, eat off the "show-car custom" engine.
Exterior styiling? This was the last Ford car designed by Larry Shinoda, who penned the immortal 1963 Corvette split window coupe.' Nuff said.
Cost of ownership- dirt cheap for the fun factor, plus the car has increased in value by 15% since bought in 2008.
Fun factor- booming exhaust note and bags of low end torque make it priceless; my 1st car in high school was a 1970 coupe purchased in 1972 for under $2500. (I have $13K in the "new" one).Aug 17, 2010

i bought this car over the summer for $1000. im restoring the car back to street use from its current drag set up. the car was $3200 with the motor,or $1200 with out. the car had perfect light blue interior but i found rust lurking under the carpet. i stripped the car to bare metal and im replacing the floors. it needs new just about everything but body parts. i replaced the drag hood with a new repo hood, brake lines, master cylinder, upgraded to a power brake booster, new pads, rotors, bearings, races, dust boots, front valence panel, etc. ive since then put t he front end back together and got the car ready for floors, and got the brakes almost done. no motor, but has a c6 automatic tranny. its got front dis and rear drums. ford 9 inch with 388 gears. 5 lug. the electrical is shot and needs a new harness, paint, slight body work to be pefrect, etc. the interior is perfect but now needs carpet because i ripped it out. the car was white/blue 302,2v,c6,dearborn car...it has 88xxx miles, but im not sure if its original. the car has the ac and power sterring, power brakes, but the ac parts were "86'd" along time ago for extra power. the pics are out of order but the ones with black front end are current.Nov 28, 2009

really fast in a straightline .70's oversensitive power steering not cool when agressively going through the gears. gas mileage not a consideration. the cars function is to look and sound great while launching from one stop light to the next. which is does great. factory rated @ 290 Hp was low and engine redlines @ 8000rpmsOct 20, 2009

The Mustang is a fantastic car. Always screaming for personal originality, the mustang is an open (beautiful) canvas waiting for the individual to paint a masterpiece. I am a lucky owner.
The small block 302 is ready for high revving action. The stock 2V is always ready for upgrading. She handles pretty good, but keep in mind, it is a 39 year old car. Braking is standard for drum brakes.
It's a Mustang...I'd say it looks pretty good.
Gas mileage.....lol. Actually, it isn't to bad (I'm thinking around 15 mpg).
Heck of a car to drive!

I like the fact that a lot of my own personal blood sweat and tears have gone into the building of it. It is however quite expensive to own and keep. It is amazing to drive and really fast. It is the first car that I owned and unfortunately I am selling it.Nov 23, 2008

Bought this car last year for $3k in pieces. Slowly putting it back together. Had engine rebored and will stroke it to 393 (6L). When it left the factory it did 11mpg - will do about 8 now LOL. Sultan of Oman will send me postcards and thank you notes for spending so much at the gas station.Aug 31, 2008

Heh, what's to like? It's got no engine, transmission. Crushed roof, crushed grille, rust in a few spots, crushed hood, broken windshield, crushed l/f fender (by the way, a tree fell on it), damaged front suspension, some yellow jackets have set up nest in it, and the seats are on pieces in the interior, which has seen better days.
The price? just right. $85 is what I paid the tow truck driver to drag it to my (poor) parents house. Gimme a few years and I'll keep this space updatedAug 24, 2008

1970 Mustang Fastback with standard 302 in it. No speed demon but a cool car none the less! Had some troubles starting but that has most likely been fixed, cheaply and easily. Sounds good but what can you expect with a single-exhaust system. Upgrading to Dual Flowmasters soon!Jun 16, 2008

In spite of one underhood fire, the old 70 would go zero-60 in a one time best of 4.9 seconds and pull down 22 mpg after rebuilding the carb. I miss that car the most of all the Mustangs I've had, it was the closest thing to a Shelby that I'll probably ever own unless my numbers for the 649 come in... words can't describe.Jan 09, 2008
I have a 70 mustang coupe with a 302. I have changed it over to a 4V intake and carb. I have overheating problems ever since. I have done the following: 1) new water pump 2) 2 new thermostats. started with a190* and dropped to a 170* 3) new radiator with shroud 4) heater core was bad, i bypassed it. 5) new belts Car is stock, timing is good. Car runs great, will idle for 30 minutes at 172* but when you drive it, it overheats with in a few miles. Not sure what else to do.
I am trying to find information about changing my 1970 Mustang convertible Straight six 200 to a more economical 4.0 V6. After doing some research it is of my opinion that the V6 is lighter then the cast straight 6. This means I dont have to change the axles, the brakes, and still get a more fuel efficient vehicle. What I am looking for is how to wire the vehicle and where to find the adapter to short the wiring straight to the computer. I also need to know if any of you long time customization experts might have any words of wisdom except drop a V8 in it. My skills are moderate to middle of the road. The reason why I want to change engines is the alcohol keeps eating the rubber plungger in the one barrel carburator and having to rebuild it almost every other year is getting old. So anyone that might have some words of wisdom to help me with my plight will be greatly appreciated. The reason I am going to a 4.0 also this convertible is a cruiser and not a racer. It doesnt tow anything and it's just for summer.
i have a 1970 Ford Mustang Grande (originally had a 302) I bought with no motor or tranny. A buddy told me he has an engine and tranny I could have pretty cheap its a 4.6 from a police interceptor
