In 2012, Ford added the Explorer SUV to the catalog. Two variants emerged with configurations for emergency responders and police use. Like Police Interceptors before it, the Explorer got upgraded engines, better cooling, permanent torque-vectoring all-wheel drive, and better brakes. The latest Explorer Police Interceptor is based on the sixth-generation civilian SUV, and sports three engine choices with a 0-60 mph time as quick as 5.5 seconds.
