Customer summary
The Toyota Sequoia has garnered positive feedback from owners across its model years, primarily for its spaciousness, reliability, and strong performance, especially in towing. Drivers frequently highlight its comfortable ride and ample cargo space as standout features, making it a great choice for families and road trips. However, a common criticism is its fuel economy, which many consider to be below expectations, especially for a full-size SUV. Additionally, some owners have expressed disappointment regarding outdated interior designs and the limited tech features in earlier models. Despite these drawbacks, the Sequoia remains a solid option for those prioritizing space and dependability.

What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Sequoia?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 80.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 98.5% |
| 2025 | 96.4% |
| 2024 | 94.1% |
| 2023 | 91.8% |

| 2020 | 62.7% |
| 2019 | 61.1% |
| 2018 | 61.5% |
| 2017 | 62.1% |
| 2016 | 59.7% |
| 2015 | 57.9% |
| 2014 | 63.7% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5, with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane-centering assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.
- Infotainment: a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: According to the EPA, a Sequoia with 4WD should average 20 mpg in combined driving.
Which Toyota Sequoia trim should I buy?
The 2025 Toyota Sequoia offers these trims:
- SR5: the entry point to the lineup, giving you the Sequoia's full-size SUV basics and the model's core towing-focused character.
- Limited: a step up for shoppers who want a more upscale everyday setup while staying close to the Sequoia's value sweet spot.
- Platinum: adds a more premium feel and serves as the foundation for the 1794 Edition's extra luxury touches.
- 1794 Edition: builds on the Platinum with machined-finish 20-inch wheels, more exterior chrome, Saddle Tan leather upholstery, open pore American walnut wood trim, and all-weather floor mats.
- TRD Pro: the off-road-focused trim for buyers who want the Sequoia's rugged side emphasized.
- Capstone: the top luxury-oriented trim in the lineup.
What Toyota Sequoia do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Sequoia years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 1,250 | 30.3% |
| 2025 | 1,233 | 29.9% |
| 2023 | 845 | 29.5% |
| 2026 | 736 | 29.9% |
| 2022 | 406 | 29.1% |
| 2018 | 262 | 27.5% |
These higher-volume years tend to be the easiest places to shop because you get more inventory to compare and more chances to find the right trim, mileage, and condition. They also tend to attract the broadest buyer interest, which helps keep selection strong.
What is the Toyota Sequoia's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | $66,988 | −8.09% |
| 2015 | $20,335 | −7.5% |
| 2023 | $62,071 | −7.43% |
| 2016 | $24,669 | −7.32% |

| 2021 | $48,378 | +0.38% |
| 2020 | $45,569 | +1.57% |
Most model years are moving lower year over year, which is helpful if you're shopping used and want more room to negotiate. A few years are nearly flat or slightly higher, showing that some Sequoia model years are holding value better than others. The 2018, 2019, and 2021 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year. The 2020, 2021, and 2019 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.
Is the Toyota Sequoia safe?
- 2025: 5/10
- 2024: 10/10
- 2023: 10/10
- 2022: 7/10
- 2021: 5/10
Every 2025 Sequoia has Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 (TSS 2.5), a collection of driving assistance features.
For the safest used buy, the 2023 and 2024 models both post the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
Should I buy a used Toyota Sequoia now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −7.26% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −8.09%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 29.9% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 30.3%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $66,988. The Toyota Sequoia offers the kind of roomy, family-friendly layout that suits hauling people and gear, while still feeling capable enough for towing and rougher use.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The Sequoia comes standard with what Toyota calls an i-Force Max hybrid powertrain. It includes a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine, an electric motor, a 1.87-kilowatt-hour nickel metal hydride battery pack, and a 10-speed automatic transmission.
- Tech: Our Sequoia 1794 Edition test vehicle was equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system. If you’d rather not pay for these subscriptions when the free trials end, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
- Safety: Every 2025 Sequoia has Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 (TSS 2.5), a collection of driving assistance features. They include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane-centering assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.
- Starting price: Prices range from $62,425 to $83,915, plus the destination charge.
If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for 2027 inventory to mature.

I love everything about the Sequoia except for the cargo space.

Reviewed a 2025 Toyota TRD Pro 4WD on Aug 7, 2025
I think this car is a good value. I think the gas mileage really isn't any better than my 2021 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro V8 that I traded in for the Sequoia. However the features of the 2025 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro cannot be beat. I don't think Toyota missed a detail on this beauty. The vehicle has the smoothest ride of any vehicle I have ever been in. This SUV turns on a dime. I would compare it closest to the GMC Yukon Denali, except the Sequoia is cooler not just for it's rugged exterior but the red camo leather interior that is a perfect compliment to the Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro unique character and customer base.

Ok, so I wrote a long review, but it didnt go through. Pros - exterior is best in its class. Interior - best in class if you like a rugged look and exclude Escalade (saw a 2021 and it killed the Sequoia, but was $30,000 more). Technology and touch screen have improved significantly. Seats 7 comfortably, but not good on rear storage space if seating 7. Power is actually amongst best in its class. Towing is really good even though I have not used it. Although storage space behind 3rd row is bad, it actually fits in the garage. My street has large full size SUVs (Suburban, Tahoe and Navigators) and they all sit in the driveway. Im sorry, but if you are shelling out that much money for the vehicle and cant have it in the garage, that is not good. Cons - Rear storage area is likely worst in class of large full sized SUVS. The batteries and live rear axle make it so the seats dont go all the way down and you cant really take the seats out from what I can see..... Gas mileage is below what is advertised (only 200 miles in and have done mostly city), but Im getting 17.6. Although this is better than most if not all in its class, I was hoping to average at least 20. Overall - If you can afford it and want a vehicle that stands out and has a presence on the road, and you can trust it to be reliable, this is the vehicle for you. If you dont have an extra $25,000, to shell out for how awesome this vehicle is, get a Grand Highlander as you get most of the pros of this vehicle at a lower price point. However, a Grand Highlander is not this and will never be this, but does many of the same things (except towing) with better gas mileage. With that said, I still buy this 10/10 times as I could never see myself driving a Grand Highlander as a single dad.

Toyota Sequoia test drive
overall

There’s a new reason to consider a 2025 Toyota Sequoia, and it goes by the name 1794 Edition.
The 2025 Sequoia is Toyota’s full-size SUV, based on the same platform as the Tundra pickup truck and using the same i-Force Max hybrid powertrain. It seats up to eight people, holds up to 86.9 cubic feet of cargo, carries up to 1,730 pounds of payload, and tows up to 9,520 pounds of trailer. The new Sequoia 1794 Edition slots into the lineup as a Texas-themed luxury model, and it certainly is nice. But it cannot mask this SUV’s fundamental flaws.
Verdict: People buy full-size SUVs to carry lots of people, haul lots of cargo, and tow lots of weight. However, due to its packaging requirements, the Sequoia is a rock star only if you’re attaching a trailer to it, and even then, it’s not class-leading in capability.
