Most importantly, ask for maintenance records and receipts for major repairs, as a well-documented truck is generally a much safer purchase than one with an unknown service history. For a high-mileage Silverado 2500HD, rust, transmission condition, front-end wear, four-wheel-drive operation, and cooling system maintenance are the areas most likely to lead to expensive repairs if they have been neglected.
