| 2016 | 55.5% |
| 2015 | 56.2% |
| 2014 | 58.2% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2021 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Driver Assistance Package
- Infotainment: MBUX infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- Fuel efficiency: 41 miles of electric range, 22 mpg combined in hybrid mode, and 47.4 mpg with 52% of all miles traveled on electricity
Which Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers these trims:
- E 450 All-Terrain: The less-expensive wagon starts at $79,650 and adds a more rugged look plus technology that can assist with light off-road travel.
- AMG E 53 Hybrid: This performance wagon starts at $94,700 and adds AMG-tuned hardware, a height-adjustable Airmatic air suspension, premium materials, and the strongest performance focus in the lineup. It suits you best if you want the most dynamic E-Class wagon and the broadest mix of luxury and speed.
What Mercedes-Benz E-Class do most buyers choose?
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class years with the most listings are 2018, 2015, and 2017.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | 1,299 | 36.7% |
| 2015 | 1,281 | 34.2% |
| 2017 | 1,240 | 34.9% |
| 2019 | 1,209 | 36.6% |
| 2014 | 1,092 | 35.6% |
| 2022 | 1,083 | 35.6% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right color, mileage, and equipment mix. They also often sit in the part of the lineup where value and availability overlap well for used shoppers.
What is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | $48,056 | −12.03% |
| 2021 | $36,517 | −12.0% |
| 2018 | $23,092 | −8.92% |
| 2022 | $39,304 | −7.79% |
| 2017 | $17,782 | −7.67% |
| 2020 | $30,610 | −6.79% |
| 2024 | $54,651 | −5.81% |
| 2014 | $12,751 | −4.99% |
| 2025 | $59,130 | −4.88% |
| 2015 | $14,465 | −4.65% |
| 2019 | $27,532 | −4.41% |
| 2016 | $15,488 | −0.53% |
Most model years are down year over year, which is good news if you want to buy used after the sharpest part of the price drop has already happened. The biggest declines are concentrated in newer and mid-cycle examples, while the older end of the range shows smaller changes overall. That creates a broad set of opportunities if you want to balance price with equipment and age.
The 2016 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2016, 2019, and 2015 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Mercedes-Benz E-Class now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −4.88% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −5.81%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2018 model has the most listings at a current average price of $23,092. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers a roomy, upscale cabin with a refined, premium character that has long made it a benchmark in its class.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The latest AMG E 53 Hybrid wagon pairs a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with a 120-kilowatt electric motor and a 21.2-kilowatt-hour battery, delivers 577 hp and 553 lb-ft, and is rated at 41 miles of electric range and 22 mpg combined in hybrid mode.
- Tech: The latest model brings a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a 14.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, augmented reality navigation, and an available MBUX Interior Assistant.
- Safety: The latest model adds a Driver Assistance Package with adaptive cruise control, active lane-keep assist, active steering assist, active lane-change assist, and active emergency stop assist.
- Starting price: The latest AMG E 53 Hybrid wagon starts at $94,700.
If you're buying used today, the 2018 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

The E-class is the midsize line of Mercedes cars, so it’s fine for all sizes except for very tall and large people. The new inline six cylinder is my favorite engine because it has plenty of power and is fuel efficient. Overall, the quality is here and has been for years.

Why it stands out
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out for offering something few cars in its class can match: a Cabriolet body style that gives it a distinctive open-air appeal. After a substantial refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 lineup changes little, which means it carries forward the updated look and feel while remaining focused on comfort and style rather than a major redesign.
For 2022, the biggest change is the cancellation of the AMG E63 and E63 S variants, and the lineup is left with turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder power plants. Automatic high-beam headlights are standard on all 2022 E-Class models, and rear USB charging ports are now standard equipment on the coupe and convertible body styles. A couple of new paint colors also join the palette, giving shoppers a few more ways to personalize the car.
That combination makes the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class appealing to buyers who want a refined luxury car with a more distinctive personality than the typical sedan. Its strengths are its upscale presentation, standard convenience features, and the rarity of its Cabriolet version, while its limitations are tied to the loss of the high-performance AMG V8 variants.
