Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine pairs with a 120-kilowatt electric motor and 21.2-kilowatt-hour battery, and the wagon returns an EPA-rated 41 miles of electric range and 22 mpg combined in hybrid mode.
- Tech: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with an augmented reality navigation system and a Burmester 4D surround-sound system with Dolby Atmos technology.
- Safety: The latest model adds the Driver Assistance Package with adaptive cruise control, active blind-spot monitoring, active lane-change assist, active lane-keep assist, active steering assist, and automatic lane change capability.
- Starting price: The AMG E 53 Hybrid starts at $94,700.
If you're buying used today, the 2018 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

The E-class is the midsize line of Mercedes cars, so it’s fine for all sizes except for very tall and large people. The new inline six cylinder is my favorite engine because it has plenty of power and is fuel efficient. Overall, the quality is here and has been for years.

Why it stands out
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out most for its body styles, especially the Cabriolet, which is described as dominating a class of one. After a substantial refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 lineup changes very little, so it continues to lean on the E-Class’s established strengths rather than a long list of updates.
The biggest change for 2022 is the cancellation of the AMG E63 and E63 S variants, and the lineup is left with turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder power plants. Automatic high-beam headlights are standard on all 2022 E-Class models, and rear USB charging ports are now standard with the coupe and convertible body styles. A couple of new paint colors also join the range. For buyers, that makes the 2022 E-Class appealing as a refined luxury choice with a distinctive open-air option, though the year’s most notable shift is the loss of the V8-powered AMG versions.
