Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: SmartSense, Hyundai’s collection of advanced driving assistance systems.
• Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel starting with the Sonata SEL Convenience, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The Sonata Hybrid sedan offers a similarly adequate 192-hp drivetrain, which benefits from immediate electric motor torque when accelerating from a standstill and can return an EPA-estimated 47 mpg in combined driving.

Which Hyundai Sonata trim should I buy?

The 2025 Hyundai Sonata offers these trims:

• SE: the entry point with the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluelink+.
• SEL: adds the option of all-wheel drive and keeps the Sonata’s value-focused setup appealing for everyday use.

What Hyundai Sonata do most buyers choose?

The Hyundai Sonata years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

Higher-listing model years tend to be the easiest to shop because you get more inventory to compare, which can improve your odds of finding the right trim, color, and price. They also tend to attract more attention from used buyers because the combination of availability and deal volume makes them easier to cross-shop.

What is the Hyundai Sonata's resale value?

Most Sonata model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used because it points to softer pricing across much of the lineup. The steepest drops are concentrated in several years, while a few recent and mid-cycle models are falling more slowly. That creates a useful spread of value depending on how new you want to go.

The 2023, 2017, and 2020 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Hyundai Sonata safe?

• 2025: 10/10
• 2022: 9/10
• 2021: 9/10
• 2018: 9/10
• 2016: 8/10
• 2015: 9/10

Every 2025 Sonata has standard SmartSense, Hyundai’s collection of advanced driving assistance systems.

For the safest used buy, the 2025 model posts the highest confirmed score of 10/10.

Should I buy a used Hyundai Sonata now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −7.71% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −9.38%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 38.1% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 37.5%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $21,847. The Hyundai Sonata offers a roomy cabin and trunk, which helps make it an easy sedan to live with.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The Sonata’s base 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is unremarkable, although it does offer all-wheel drive (AWD) as an option for SEL models, while the Sonata Hybrid sedan offers a similarly adequate 192-hp drivetrain and can return an EPA-estimated 47 mpg in combined driving.
• Tech: All models have a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and starting with the Sonata SEL Convenience, there's also a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel; standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and the ability to connect two smartphones to the Bluetooth simultaneously.
• Safety: Every 2025 Sonata has standard SmartSense, Hyundai’s collection of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), and the Sonata N Line adds Highway Driving Assist with adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assist.
• Starting price: Across the entire lineup, pricing ranges from $28,145 to $38,945, including the $1,245 destination charge.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
