Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: SmartSense, with forward collision warning with intersection assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel starting with the Sonata SEL Convenience, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The Sonata Hybrid sedan offers a similarly adequate 192-hp drivetrain, which benefits from immediate electric motor torque when accelerating from a standstill and can return an EPA-estimated 47 mpg in combined driving.

Which Hyundai Sonata trim should I buy?

The 2025 Hyundai Sonata offers these trims:

• SE: The entry trim gives you the core Sonata experience with the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and standard Bluelink+.
• SEL: This trim adds to the standard equipment and is also the point where all-wheel drive is available on the gas model.
• SEL Convenience: This is the best-value trim, adding a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel, navigation, dynamic voice recognition, wireless smartphone charging, and digital key technology.
• N Line: This trim brings the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, dual-clutch automatic transmission, 19-inch wheels, sport-tuned suspension, rack-mounted steering, quad-outlet exhaust, Hyundai Pay tech, and a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system.
• Hybrid SEL: This hybrid trim gives you the Sonata Hybrid powertrain with the standard tech and comfort features of the hybrid lineup.
• Hybrid Limited: This trim adds a surround-view camera system, Blind Spot View Monitor, added parking assistance features, and Remote Smart Parking Assist.

What Hyundai Sonata do most buyers choose?

The Hyundai Sonata years with the most listings are 2024, 2025, and 2023.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they combine broad availability with newer features and strong value. They also give you more choices at a range of prices, which makes it easier to find the right trim and condition.

What is the Hyundai Sonata's resale value?

Most Sonata model years are down year over year, which is good news if you’re shopping used and want to avoid paying peak prices. The biggest drops are concentrated in several older and mid-cycle years, while a few recent years are falling more slowly. That pattern suggests you can still find value across much of the lineup, especially if you’re flexible on model year.

The 2023, 2017, and 2020 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Is the Hyundai Sonata safe?

• 2025: 10/10
• 2022: 9/10
• 2021: 9/10
• 2018: 9/10
• 2016: 8/10
• 2015: 9/10

Every 2025 Sonata has standard SmartSense, Hyundai’s collection of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS).

For the safest used buy, the 2025 model posts the highest confirmed score of 10/10.

Should I buy a used Hyundai Sonata now or wait for the next model?

Buy now if:

• Price trend: The 2025 model is at −7.53% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −9.45%.
• Deal availability: The 2025 model has 38.8% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 38%.
• Sweet-spot year: The 2024 model has the most listings at a current average price of $21,725. The Hyundai Sonata offers a roomy cabin and trunk, a polished interior, and a relaxed driving character.

Consider waiting if:

• Powertrain/efficiency: The Sonata’s base 191-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is unremarkable, although it does offer all-wheel drive (AWD) as an option for SEL models – all other Sonata and Sonata Hybrids have front-wheel drive (FWD), and the Sonata Hybrid sedan offers a similarly adequate 192-hp drivetrain, which benefits from immediate electric motor torque when accelerating from a standstill and can return an EPA-estimated 47 mpg in combined driving.
• Tech: All models have a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and, starting with the Sonata SEL Convenience, there's also a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel, while standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and the ability to connect two smartphones to the Bluetooth simultaneously.
• Safety: Every 2025 Sonata has standard SmartSense, Hyundai’s collection of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS), and Highway Driving Assist is standard on the Sonata N Line.
• Starting price: Across the entire lineup, pricing ranges from $28,145 to $38,945, including the $1,245 destination charge.

If you're buying used today, the 2024 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.
