30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

- Owners rate the Ford Mustang between 4.42 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by choosing a well-kept example with a clean history and documented maintenance, especially on older model years.
What should I look for when buying a used Ford Mustang?
Across all model years, at 73.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 93% |
| 2025 | 91.2% |
| 2024 | 89.1% |
| 2023 | 85.6% |

| 2016 | 54.8% |
| 2015 | 55.8% |
| 2014 | 58.8% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams
- Infotainment: a large 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen with the Sync 4 infotainment system, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Which Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2024 Ford Mustang offers these trims:
- EcoBoost: the entry engine brings the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, a 10-speed automatic, and the 13.2-inch touchscreen with Sync 4; it’s the best-value choice if you want the Mustang experience at the lowest starting point.
- GT: adds the 5.0-liter V8, a six-speed manual, and a much stronger muscle-car character for buyers who want the classic Mustang formula.
- Dark Horse: sits at the top of the range with 500 hp and additional performance enhancements for shoppers who want the most serious factory performance.
What Ford Mustang do most buyers choose?
The Ford Mustang years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 3,214 | 34.2% |
| 2024 | 3,107 | 35.1% |
| 2023 | 2,751 | 34.4% |
| 2020 | 2,227 | 33.9% |
| 2021 | 2,146 | 33.3% |
| 2019 | 2,059 | 34.2% |
Higher-volume model years tend to draw more shoppers because they offer a wider selection of listings and more price points to compare. That usually makes it easier to find the right combination of condition, equipment, and value.
What is the Ford Mustang's resale value?

The 2023, 2014, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.

Customers say
Overall, the Ford Mustang consistently impresses drivers with its powerful performance, fun driving experience, and iconic styling throughout the years. Owners frequently praise the exhilarating acceleration, handling, and variety of engine options. The thrilling sound of the V8 engines adds to the driving enjoyment. However, some drivers express concerns about limited backseat space and fuel economy, as well as occasional issues with reliability and build quality in older models. Despite these drawbacks, the Mustang is often celebrated as a beloved classic that offers both excitement and nostalgia.

I put 16000 miles on a new 2020 Mustang. Absolutely no issues. It also got great gas mileage. I averaged 29.6 mpg for the whole time I owned the car. I had the manual which was a little stiff when I first got it but worked in great.

CarGurus recommends the 2023 Ford Mustang

Summary
With 272 currently listed for sale and an average price of $21,850, 22.8% of 2023 Ford Mustang listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Ford Mustang 5 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford Mustang stands out because it sits at the end of the sixth generation, a long-running version that was revealed in late 2013 and began production in the summer of 2014 for the 2015 model year. That generation kept the Mustang’s familiar coupe and soft-top convertible body styles, its rear-wheel-drive layout, and its global-market ambitions, while also introducing Ford’s EcoBoost engine lineup and an independent rear suspension as part of the redesign. For shoppers, that combination makes the 2023 Mustang appealing as a modern take on an iconic nameplate: it still delivers the classic Mustang formula, but with a broader range of engines and transmissions than earlier versions.
For 2023, the Mustang could be had with Ford’s EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine, while other available engines included a 3.7-liter V6, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8, and two versions of the 5.2-liter V8. Transmission choices, depending on engine, included two six-speed manuals, six- and 10-speed automatics, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. That breadth is one of the car’s biggest strengths, but buyers should also be aware that EcoBoost models are known for oil consumption and potential head gasket failure, and the transmission may be prone to slippage. Used shoppers should also keep in mind that the average listing price for a 2023 Mustang is about $32,300, and that owners commonly praise its performance, styling, and value, while some note a lack of luxury features.
