Overview
About the Acura TLX
The TLX was introduced for the 2015 model year as a replacement for both the TL and TSX sedans. That first-generation TLX got a facelift for the 2018 model year, and was replaced by an all-new second-generation TLX for 2021. That version is still on sale as Acura’s larger non-SUV, slotting above the Integra hatchback and competing against small sports sedans like the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, Infiniti Q50, and Lexus IS.
What are the advantages of the Acura TLX?
- Stylish design
- Fun to drive
- Comfortable
What is the best Acura TLX model year?
The second-generation TLX introduced for the 2021 model year was a big improvement over its predecessor, bringing nicer styling, better driving dynamics, and a first-ever Type S performance version. The first-generation TLX was a solid sedan, but the current generation really stands out.
What are the disadvantages of the Acura TLX?
- Poor ergonomic design
- Cramped back seat
- Not much cargo space
Comparison: Is the Acura TLX better than the Infiniti Q50?
The production run of the Infiniti Q50 spans two generations of Acura TLX, so the Infiniti appears dated in comparison to the newest versions of the Acura. However, the Infiniti packs a bigger punch, with up to 400 horsepower available. Base versions of the Q50 are also rear-wheel drive (RWD) for a more old school driving experience. Acura’s optional AWD system is much mor sophisticated than Infiniti’s, though.
Is the Acura TLX a reliable car?
Acura has a good reputation for reliability. The TLX received a score of 78 points (out of a possible 100) in the most recent J.D. Power customer satisfaction rankings, putting it fourth in the “premium midsize car” category.
Is the Acura TLX worth the cost?
The TLX has the ingredients of a good premium sedan, but doesn’t surpass rivals in sportiness or luxury. That also means this Acura flies under the radar, so there may be more deals to be had.
