How much does the 2025 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 8.56% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,889 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 a good car?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 earns an 8.3/10 expert rating, and the update builds on a vehicle already known for style and substance. It remains a midsize three-row SUV with updated styling, materials, and feature offerings, plus mechanical tweaks aimed at improving ride comfort and handling.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

You should also weigh the trade-offs: semi-autonomous driving is not available, and the top-tier sound system still costs extra even on the top trim. For you, that means the XC90 makes the most sense if you value a polished luxury feel, user-friendly tech, and family-friendly three-row packaging over the latest hands-free driving features.

With 37.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 reliable?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is presented as a polished, well-regarded flagship SUV with a strong safety reputation and a focus on functional rather than flashy execution. Its standard advanced driver-assistance systems operated smoothly during testing, and the vehicle’s mechanical updates are aimed at improving ride comfort and handling.

The performance setup also points to a practical ownership profile: the B5 mild-hybrid is described as the more user-friendly, hassle-free option, while the plug-in hybrid requires regular charging to deliver its fuel-saving benefits. The XC90’s standard suspension uses Frequency Selective Damping technology to adapt mechanically to road conditions for improved ride comfort and stability.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher-complexity versions can bring more ownership demands, especially if you choose the plug-in hybrid and do not keep it charged regularly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim or more complex powertrain. Focus on overall condition, feature operation, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim level you think you’re buying.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Core, Plus, and Ultra each bring different equipment levels, and the base setup is more stripped back than the higher trims. The Plus and Ultra trims add the crystal shift knob, and the Ultra trim adds a head-up display.
• Powertrain: You can choose from mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The B5 is the user-friendly mild-hybrid option, the B6 adds turbo- and e-supercharging for more power, and the T8 plug-in hybrid adds an electric motor and battery pack with up to 33 miles of pure-electric range.
• Safety package: Standard advanced driver-assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, and the blind-spot information system. It also includes active collision-avoidance features such as intersection auto brake and large animal detection, but there is no hands-free highway-driving system.
• Infotainment: The touchscreen is larger, sharper, and runs a new user interface with a fixed menu bar and contextual bar. Apple CarPlay is standard and works wirelessly or via USB-C cable, and Google Built-In is included.
• Fuel efficiency: The plug-in hybrid offers up to 33 miles of pure-electric range, and the T8 is rated at up to 27 mpg.

Which 2025 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultra.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point, and it makes the XC90’s three-row layout and standard AWD accessible without stepping up to the pricier trims. It suits you if you want the XC90’s core strengths and are comfortable with a simpler equipment list.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful upscale touches, including the crystal shift knob and more premium interior material choices. It’s the trim to target if you want the strongest balance of features and price.
• Ultra: This is the most luxurious choice, and it adds the head-up display plus access to the top-tier audio upgrade. Choose it if you want the most complete XC90 experience and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Volvo XC90?

The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,889 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.56% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $50,855, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $50,855 sits slightly below last year's $55,617.

That price movement suggests the XC90 has softened enough to help you buy more selectively today. If you sell later, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on trim, condition, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Because the current average is already below the prior-year level, a clean, well-equipped example may hold up better than a higher-mileage or poorly optioned one. For you, that means buying carefully now can help protect your future resale position.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is too new to have been crash-tested by independent safety organizations, but its predecessors as well as the automaker itself have established quite the reputation. It also scored top marks from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with five-star overall ratings.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard advanced driver-assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, and the blind-spot information system. It also includes active collision-avoidance features like intersection auto brake and large animal detection.

A key caveat is that it does not offer a hands-free highway-driving system, which some rival midsize three-row SUVs do provide.

Should I buy a 2025 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.56% compared with last year.
• The 2025 update brings refreshed styling, materials, feature offerings, and ride-and-handling tweaks.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $44,712, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $50,855 average.
• It remains appealing for its timeless styling and plug-in hybrid availability.

The bottom line: If you want the most polished version of the XC90 with the latest refresh, the 2025 is the better pick. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable giving up the newer updates, the 2024 is the smarter value play.
