Used 2025 Subaru Outback for Sale nearNew Brunswick, NJ

How much does the 2025 Subaru Outback cost?

Prices have softened 6.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,657 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2025 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2025 Subaru Outback earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

The Outback’s appeal comes from its rugged wagon shape, standard all-wheel drive, great ride quality, and strong safety ratings. It also stands apart from look-alike crossovers, which makes it a practical choice if you want everyday usability without blending in.

The main trade-offs are the underwhelming base engine and sluggish touchscreen response. If you value comfort, confidence in poor weather, and a distinctive body style more than quick acceleration or cutting-edge tech, the Outback fits that use case well.

37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Outback’s reliability case is helped by its straightforward mission: practical packaging, standard all-wheel drive, and a comfort-first driving character. Its smooth ride and generally composed road manners support the sense that it is built for steady everyday use rather than constant drama.

The powertrain is described as generally unobtrusive, and the turbocharged version is the better pick if you want more reserve power. Subaru’s maintenance coverage language also points to a buyer-friendly ownership experience.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a version that feels underpowered or one with tech features that may frustrate you over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Subaru Outback?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a trim with more equipment. Focus on overall condition, how the touchscreen and driver-assist features behave, and whether the vehicle feels as tight and composed as it should on the road.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base and Premium trims use cloth upholstery and 17-inch wheels, while Onyx and Wilderness models get easy-to-clean StarTex synthetic leather. Limited adds a power moonroof, DriverFocus anti-distraction tech, navigation, a 360-degree heated steering wheel, an 11.6-inch infotainment system, leather interior, and heated seats front and rear. Touring XT adds Nappa leather upholstery and ventilated front seats.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, while XT models use a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft. The turbo version is the better choice if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist technology includes adaptive cruise control with lane centering, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering. Onyx and higher trim levels also add blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Most Outbacks use an 11.6-inch touchscreen, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included unless you have the base model’s twin 7-inch displays. The system is slow to respond, especially at startup.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.5-liter model earns 26 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined. Turbocharged XT models return 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The Wilderness model drops to 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2025 Subaru Outback is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx, Wilderness, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point if you want the Outback’s standard all-wheel drive and wagon practicality at the lowest cost, but it also comes with the most basic equipment and the least appealing version of the powertrain.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds useful comfort and convenience without pushing you too far up the price ladder.
• Onyx: This is the better pick if you want a more rugged-feeling setup and the added safety tech that comes with higher trims.
• Wilderness: Choose this if you want the most adventure-focused version, with extra ground clearance and the most serious off-road hardware in the lineup.
• Limited: This is the most well-rounded upscale choice, adding major comfort, tech, and convenience upgrades that make the cabin feel much more premium.

Onyx and higher trim levels also add blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Subaru Outback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,657 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.07% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 93.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,833, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $31,833 sits slightly below last year's $33,890.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more on condition, trim desirability, and mileage than on broad market momentum alone.

Because the Outback has a distinctive body style and strong practical appeal, well-kept examples should continue to attract shoppers who want something different from a typical crossover. Strong equipment and clean history should help your vehicle stand out when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2025 Subaru Outback earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist technology uses two cameras mounted atop the windshield near the rearview mirror to monitor the road ahead and enable various features. These include adaptive cruise control with lane centering, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic emergency steering.

Onyx and higher trim levels also have blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. That means you’ll want to pay attention to trim choice if those features matter to you.

The main caveat is that the lane-centering behavior can feel a little busy, with more side-to-side movement than ideal.

Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2025 stands out as one of the last remaining station wagons, with standard all-wheel drive and strong safety ratings.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $28,616, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $31,833 average.
• It keeps the raised station wagon character and offers a broad trim range with feature-enriched updates.

Consider the 2026 if:

• The redesigned model shifts to an SUV-like form while keeping wagon practicality.
• It adds numerous feature enhancements and broader off-road and pavement capability.

The bottom line: If you want the current Outback’s distinctive wagon shape, standard all-wheel drive, and strong safety reputation, the 2025 is the one to target. If your priority is saving money, the 2024 is the smarter value play. If you’d rather wait for the redesign and want a more SUV-like take on the formula, the 2026 is the alternative to watch.
