The Kia K5 has been a handsome midsize sedan since it debuted in 2021 as a replacement for the now-discontinued Kia Optima. ## What’s New for 2025 The 2025 Kia K5 debuts with an updated design, a new base powertrain, and a refreshed interior. For the 2025 model year, Kia has also updated the car’s technology and safety offerings. ## Design For 2025, Kia adds newly standard “Star Map” LED daytime running lights. The K5 also gets a new front fascia with a narrow grille and larger air intakes on the lower edge. Sold in four trims, LXS, EX, GT-Line (with front-wheel or all-wheel drive), and GT, the K5 looks like the sporty option when placed next to more reserved sedans, such as the Honda Accord, the Hyundai Sonata, and the Toyota Camry. The K5, for instance, offers a standard integrated spoiler. Can Hyundai say that? ## Powertrain For the 2025 model year, Kia introduces a new 2.5-liter normally aspirated engine as the base mill for the K5. It replaces the previous 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, and the new engine offers an 11 horsepower increase. The GT trim level retains its powerful 2.5-liter turbo engine, delivering 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. However, while the naturally aspirated GT-Line can be equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD), the GT (like all other trims) is available with only front-wheel drive (FWD). Both powerplants connect with an eight-speed automatic transmission, although the base engine uses a standard auto while the GT benefits from a dual-clutch transmission. ## Interior Kia now boasts a single-pane curved display as standard equipment on the K5. It houses both the driver-information display and the touchscreen infotainment display. A revised center console with larger cupholders, a wireless charging pad, and USB-C charge ports offers added convenience for front-seaters. ## Technology Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also now standard across all trim levels, and Kia’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit system (what the company calls its infotainment software) has been updated to process faster and offer better graphics and refresh rate. We’re happy to see a new “Quick Controls” feature allows owners to pin their frequently used icons, as the Kia interface can often feel cluttered. Finally, Kia is including over-the-air (OTA) update technology on the 2025 K5. ## Safety The 2025 Kia hosts a bevy of standard advanced driving-assist systems (ADAS) across all trim levels. This includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision avoidance, and highway driving assist. Further, a blind-view monitor, a surround-view monitor, and parking collision-avoidance systems are available, depending on trim. ## Pricing Pricing details for the 2025 Kia K5 will be announced closer to its launch date. As of this writing, we expect to see a slight increase in price over the 2024 model, although it’s worth noting that the 2024 Kia K5’s price undercut all of its major competitors, at least in base-trim specification.
