Is the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The Tiguan’s appeal comes from its premium look, standard safety technology, and practical value for shoppers who want a compact SUV with a more upscale feel. Volkswagen also makes more desirable safety tech standard for this model year, which strengthens its case if you want a well-equipped daily driver.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Tiguan’s reliability case is helped by Volkswagen’s standard coverage and ownership perks, including a four-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, two years or 20,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, and three years of roadside assistance. The model also benefits from standard safety equipment and a broad set of driver-assistance features, which can reduce day-to-day stress.

Its performance is described as mixed, with inconsistent power delivery and a touchy gas pedal, so long-term ownership may feel more satisfying if you prioritize comfort, safety, and style over driving polish.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple trims or higher-mileage examples. Focus on seat comfort, throttle behavior, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Tiguan S is the most stripped-down version, with grayscale color choices and fewer convenience features than higher trims. The SE adds more comfort and convenience equipment, while the SE R-Line and SEL R-Line bring more premium touches.
• Powertrain: Every 2024 Tiguan uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is available on the lower trims.
• Safety package: IQ.DRIVE is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, active blind-spot monitoring with steering intervention, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. Standard equipment also includes rear cross-traffic alert, automatic post-collision braking, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking.
• Infotainment: The base Tiguan S has a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while other trims get an 8-inch center touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit System is standard, and the SEL R-Line gets the fully configurable 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro screen.
• Fuel efficiency: AWD lowers the base Tiguan S from 27 to 25 mpg combined, and sporty R-Line models with AWD are rated at 24 mpg combined.

Which 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, SE R-Line, and SEL R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value play if you want the Tiguan’s standard safety tech and core turbocharged powertrain at the lowest entry point. It’s the least expensive route into the model, but it also has the fewest comfort and convenience features.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds eight-way power driver’s seat adjustability, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone climate control, and a power tailgate. It gives you a more complete everyday package without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• SE R-Line: Choose this if you want a more upscale appearance and a panoramic sunroof. It builds on the SE with a sportier look and more premium feel.
• SEL R-Line: This is the most luxurious version, with real leather, front-seat ventilation, a heated steering wheel, driver’s seat memory, and power adjustment for the front passenger seat. It’s the right pick if you want the most comfort and the most features.

Park Distance Control becomes standard at the SE R-Line Black trim level.

Should I buy a 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Volkswagen makes more desirable safety tech standard this year.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $21,983, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $24,208 average.
• It feels larger inside and offers a third-row seat.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $29,848, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $24,208 average.
• It updates the Tiguan’s interface and refines the design.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, standard safety tech, and used-market availability, the 2024 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2023 can save you money, while the 2025 makes sense if you want the redesigned model and can spend more.
