How much does the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?

Prices have softened 6.85% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 5,408 listings available, which suggests you should have a solid range of choices.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated SUV with an expert score of 7.5/10. The Tiguan’s appeal comes from its premium look and standard safety equipment, and it’s Volkswagen’s best-selling model, which helps reinforce its broad shopper appeal. It’s a compact SUV that aims to feel more upscale than many rivals, especially if you want style and standard safety tech in a practical package.

The trade-offs are real, though: the driving experience is not especially rewarding, the throttle can be irritating, and the seats are uncomfortable. Even so, the model’s standard safety features and upscale presentation make it a strong fit if you value everyday usefulness over driving excitement.

38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s meaningful room to shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Volkswagen backs the Tiguan with a four-year/50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, and standard Carefree Coverage includes two years or 20,000 miles of scheduled maintenance plus three years of roadside assistance. The model also includes a complimentary five-year subscription to VW Car-Net, which adds connected services such as automatic crash notifications and stolen vehicle location assistance.

The Tiguan’s standard safety equipment and warranty coverage help reduce ownership anxiety, but its efficiency and driving refinement may still matter over time if you plan to keep it for years.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the specific car you’re considering has a clean maintenance record. A pre-purchase inspection is especially worthwhile if you want to check the seats, throttle response, and overall condition closely. Focus on how the cabin wears, how the controls feel in daily use, and whether the vehicle’s standard safety tech is functioning properly.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Tiguan S comes with heated front seats and cloth seating surfaces, while the SE adds eight-way power driver’s seat adjustability, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone climate control, and a power tailgate. The SE R-Line adds a panoramic sunroof, and the SEL R-Line adds real leather, front-seat ventilation, a heated steering wheel, three-position driver’s seat memory, and power adjustability for the front passenger seat.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is available on the lower trims.
• Safety package: IQ.DRIVE is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, active blind-spot monitoring with steering intervention, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. Standard equipment also includes rain-sensing wipers, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic post-collision braking, and forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking.
• Infotainment: The Tiguan uses an 8-inch center touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The base S trim gets a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while other trims get four USB-C ports plus wireless charging.
• Fuel efficiency: AWD takes the base Tiguan S down from 27 to 25 mpg combined, and AWD trims with the sporty R-Line designation are rated at 24 mpg combined. The range-topping Tiguan is rated at 24 mpg combined, with 22 city and 29 highway.

Which 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, SE R-Line, SEL R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you heated front seats, cloth upholstery, standard safety tech, and the core Tiguan experience. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra comfort and convenience features.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds eight-way power driver’s seat adjustability, leatherette upholstery, dual-zone climate control, and a power tailgate without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
• SE R-Line: This trim adds a panoramic sunroof and brings a more upscale feel, making it a good fit if you want a nicer cabin presentation and are willing to pay for it.
• SEL R-Line: This is the most luxurious version, with real leather, front-seat ventilation, a heated steering wheel, memory settings, and a power-adjustable front passenger seat. It suits you best if comfort and premium features matter more than value.

Park Distance Control becomes standard at the SE R-Line Black trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 5,408 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.85% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,854, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $24,105 sits slightly below last year's $25,876.

That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations if the market stays competitive. The Tiguan’s premium image and standard safety equipment should help support demand, especially among shoppers who want a compact SUV with a more upscale feel. Still, its resale strength will depend on condition, mileage, and how well it holds up against newer alternatives.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

The Volkswagen Tiguan earned a 2022 Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite is standard, and it brings adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, active blind-spot monitoring with steering intervention, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. That means every 2024 Tiguan gets a broad set of driver-assistance features, along with rain-sensing wipers, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic post-collision braking, and forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking.

One trim-level note to keep in mind: Park Distance Control becomes standard at the SE R-Line Black trim level. The Tiguan’s safety story is strong overall, but the lack of a 2024 IIHS update means you should still verify the exact vehicle’s equipment and condition before buying.

Should I buy a 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.85% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds standard IQ.DRIVE safety tech across the lineup.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $21,874, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $24,105 average.
• It offers more interior space and a third-row seat.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $29,763, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $24,105 average.
• It brings an all-new design and a corrected user interface.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, standard safety tech, and broad availability, the 2024 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2023 can save you money, while the 2025 makes sense if you want the redesigned model and can pay more.
