Why it stands out
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe stands out first for its full redesign, which gives it a bold, blocky look and a more distinctive presence than before. Hyundai also gave it a longer wheelbase and standard third-row seats, along with new premium amenities and a “terrace” approach to passenger and cargo space. That combination makes the Santa Fe feel like more than a styling exercise; it is meant to bring added substance to the redesign as well.
Technology is another major draw, and the Santa Fe’s feature set is one of its strongest selling points. The available powertrain choices add to its appeal, and the overall package is described as successful. At the same time, it is not without compromises: the third row is cramped, performance is pedestrian, and top trims can get expensive.

We bought this car primarily because of the value, in terms of what we get for the money. We looked at many other manufacturers like Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Kia, Nissan and the Hyundai Santa Fe, in the Calligraphy trim level had the most and best features for the price.

The car is a great upgrade from years before. The third row is very nice and a great size for teenagers. The ride is smooth and quiet.

It’s so smooth when you drive and all the features are wonderful. Very comfortable and lots of leg room for my 5’10-6’7 family. Great price for an SUV. It’s a 4 cylinder, but the turbo allows it to get up and go while passing or entering a freeway.

How much does the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $31,335 |
| Year-Round Low | $31,335 |
| Year-Round High | $34,380 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $34,379 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.85% |
Prices have softened 8.85% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 5,477 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?
Yes — the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Technology.
The Santa Fe’s redesign gives it a bold, blocky look and a more distinctive presence, while the longer wheelbase and standard third-row seats add real substance to the package. It also leans hard into technology, with a feature set that stands out as one of its strongest selling points.
The trade-offs are clear: the third row is cramped, performance is pedestrian, and top trims can get expensive.
For you, that means the Santa Fe makes the most sense if you want a stylish, well-equipped family SUV with a lot of standard content rather than a sporty or especially spacious three-row.
34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Santa Fe is presented as a well-rounded redesign with added substance, not just a styling exercise. Its standard advanced safety and driver-assistance content, plus the broad feature set across the lineup, support the case for dependable day-to-day ownership.
The expert notes also point to a smooth, mostly stable driving experience, with few misses in acceleration, throttle response, or shifting. The performance content describes the powertrain as a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, which gives you a clear, modern mechanical setup.
For long-term ownership, the main risk is that higher trims can push your budget up quickly, so you’ll want to balance equipment against purchase price.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report, especially if you’re comparing multiple trims or shopping from the lower end of the price range. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing because the Santa Fe’s feature content varies a lot by trim, and you’ll want to confirm that the equipment you expect is actually present and working.
Focus on overall condition, trim-specific equipment, and whether the vehicle has the safety and tech features that matter most to you.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SE is the simplest version, while the SEL adds synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, the curved panoramic display, a wireless smartphone charger, and an upgraded rear occupant alert system. The XRT adds dark chrome and black cladding and trim, while Limited and Calligraphy versions bring more upscale wheel and cabin treatment.
- Powertrain: The standard setup is a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, rated at 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional, and the XRT gets all-wheel drive standard. A hybrid powertrain is also offered later in the model year.
- Safety package: The base SE includes a reversing camera, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, forward collision-avoidance assist, intersection assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic emergency braking, safe-exit assist, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, driver-attention monitoring with hands-off alert, and a rear-occupant reminder system. The XRT adds Hyundai’s highway limited hands-free driving system, while Limited and Calligraphy add more advanced camera and parking features.
- Infotainment: The SE and SEL use a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Higher trims get the curved panoramic display, and the system includes wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, a 12-speaker Bose stereo, dynamic voice recognition, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and six USB ports on the better-equipped trims.
- Fuel efficiency: The base FWD version is rated at 20 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. AWD versions are rated at 20/28/23, and the XRT is rated at 19/26/22. The hybrid is rated at 36 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 36 mpg combined with FWD, or 35/34/34 with AWD.
Which 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, Calligraphy.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you a strong safety suite plus the core Santa Fe redesign. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra comfort and tech upgrades.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim. For a relatively modest step up, you get synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, the curved panoramic display, a wireless smartphone charger, and an upgraded rear occupant alert system.
- XRT: Choose this if you want the more rugged-looking version with dark exterior trim, standard all-wheel drive, off-road modes, and Hyundai’s highway limited hands-free driving system.
- Limited: This trim is the move if you want a more upscale family SUV, with a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot view monitor, rain-sensing windshield wipers, parking sensors, reverse parking collision assist, remote automatic parking, and a sanitizing compartment in the glovebox.
- Calligraphy: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with a widescreen head-up display and upgraded blind-spot and forward collision avoidance systems, but it is also the most expensive path.
The base SE includes the core safety equipment, while the higher trims layer on more advanced driver-assistance and convenience features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 5,477 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.85% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $31,335, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe's resale value?
The current average of $31,335 sits slightly below last year's $34,379.
That price movement suggests the Santa Fe has become more accessible to used buyers, which can help keep demand healthy in the near term. If you buy at the right price, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation compared with purchasing when prices were higher.
For a future seller, the key will be how well the vehicle holds up in a market that already rewards value and equipment. Well-equipped trims should remain easier to market than stripped versions, especially if they stay clean and accident-free.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe has not yet been crash-tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Santa Fe comes with a broad standard safety suite that includes a reversing camera, stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, forward collision-avoidance assist, intersection assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic emergency braking, safe-exit assist, lane-keep assist, lane-following assist, driver-attention monitoring with hands-off alert, and a rear-occupant reminder system.
The XRT adds Hyundai’s highway limited hands-free driving system. Limited and Calligraphy trims add more advanced camera, parking, and collision-avoidance features, while Calligraphy also gets a widescreen head-up display.
One caveat from the road test: the traffic-sign recognition system occasionally misread Tennessee state route signs as speed limit signs.
Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.85% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesign brings a bold new look, standard third-row seating, and a stronger technology focus.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $24,836, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $31,335 average.
- It delivers class-leading value with standard safety features and easy-to-use technology.
Consider the 2025 if:
- At $33,082, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $31,335 average.
- It adds more interior space and a bolder, more distinctive design.
The bottom line: If you want the newest design, the strongest tech story, and a broad used-market selection, the 2024 is the primary path to consider. If your priority is saving money, the 2023 is the better price-first alternative, while the 2025 makes sense if you want the newer take on the Santa Fe and are willing to pay more.
