Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Form follows function here: you get a midsize, three-row SUV that sits at the smaller end of its class, but its boxy shape and thoughtfully crafted interior make a strong case for everyday family use. The Santa Fe also brings a new transmission, added safety features, and minor equipment and packaging updates for 2026, which helps it feel more polished.

The trade-offs are clear. The design is polarizing, fuel economy is poor, and the third row is cramped. Even so, the Santa Fe’s practical layout and strong value proposition make it appealing if you want a distinctive family crossover rather than the biggest SUV in the segment.

With 38.0% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is presented as a well-rounded family SUV with a strong warranty and roadside assistance coverage, plus complimentary lifetime Bluelink+ connected services for original owners. Its new automatic transmission is described as smoother and more unobtrusive than the previous dual-clutch setup, which supports a more relaxed ownership experience.

The Santa Fe’s standard turbocharged engine is not very fuel efficient, and the XRT is called out as the least-efficient version. That means long-term ownership costs can rise if you prioritize the off-road-focused trim or spend a lot of time in stop-and-go driving.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a trim with more equipment. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, and whether the vehicle’s features and trim level match how you plan to use it.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy are the trim levels to compare. The base trims use a 4.2-inch center display in the gauge cluster, while Limited and Calligraphy get a larger 12.3-inch display. The XRT adds a more rugged look, blacked-out appearance, and all-terrain tires, but it also brings the least-efficient setup and is the worst value if you do not need off-road capability.
• Powertrain: A standard 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. For 2026, Hyundai switched from a dual-clutch automatic to a traditional eight-speed automatic, which delivers a smoother driving experience. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional on most trims and standard on the XRT.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes junction turning detection, front and rear parking sensors, and safe-exit assist. On higher trims, standard adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist operate as Highway Driving Assist, and a driver-attention monitor is included. Some features, such as navigation-based speed and curve control, are optional.
• Infotainment: The Santa Fe uses a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and standard tech includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluelink+ connected services. Optional features include native navigation, dynamic voice recognition, and Hyundai Pay technology. A Bose premium audio system is standard from the Limited trim upward.
• Fuel efficiency: The XRT is rated at 21 mpg combined, while other AWD models are rated at 23 mpg combined. The Santa Fe Hybrid is rated at 34 mpg combined with AWD.

Which 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point if you want the Santa Fe’s core family-SUV packaging without moving up the price ladder. It gives you the standard powertrain and the basic dual-screen layout, but it does not bring the richer display setup or premium equipment found higher up.
• SEL: This is the trim to target if you want a sensible middle ground. It keeps the Santa Fe’s practical strengths while adding more equipment than the SE, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• XRT: Choose this if you want the rugged look and off-road-focused hardware. It adds all-terrain tires, a raised suspension, standard all-wheel drive, and off-road drive modes, but it is also the least-efficient version and not the best value unless you actually plan to use those capabilities.
• Limited: This is where the Santa Fe starts to feel more upscale. You get the larger 12.3-inch display in the gauge cluster, and a Bose premium audio system becomes standard from this trim upward.
• Calligraphy: Pick this if you want the most luxurious Santa Fe experience. It sits at the top of the lineup and builds on the Limited’s richer equipment with the most premium presentation.

Higher trims also bring Highway Driving Assist, while the standard safety package remains a major strength across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe?

The market looks moderate for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,914 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 93.9% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star individual scores for frontal and side crashworthiness and four stars for rollover resistance. It also earns a 2026 Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai equips the Santa Fe with a long list of standard safety features, including junction turning detection, front and rear parking sensors, and safe-exit assist. On higher trims, standard adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist operate as Highway Driving Assist, and a driver-attention monitor is included. Navigation-based speed and curve control is available, though it can slow the vehicle too much in practice.

Should I buy a 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 38.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 adds a new transmission, added safety features, and minor equipment and packaging updates.

Consider the 2025 if:

• The 2025 emphasizes bold styling and a more spacious-feeling family setup.

The bottom line: If you want the most polished version of this generation, the 2026 is the better default choice thanks to its smoother transmission and updated safety and equipment story. If you are mainly chasing style and want to shop the prior year for a potentially different price point, the 2025 remains worth a look.
