CarGurus Analysis: 2024 Hyundai Elantra
overall

Summary
With 235 currently listed for sale near Washington, DC and an average price of $19,055, 44.7% of 2024 Hyundai Elantras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.

Why it stands out
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra stands out as a compact sedan that has moved well beyond the bargain-basement image Hyundai once had in this segment. According to the test-drive summary, the current seventh-generation model debuted in 2020 and helped the Elantra compete more directly with other compact sedans on substance, especially in how it drives and feels. For 2024, a mild refresh adds more style and standard equipment, and the car’s appeal is reinforced by its sporty-looking design and wider range of trim levels.
It is also notable for offering multiple powertrain options and even a manual transmission, which is uncommon enough to be a real differentiator for buyers who want more involvement. At the same time, the Elantra is not without compromises: the design may be polarizing, the base engine is described as underwhelming, and the interior materials can feel cheap. Even so, the overall impression is of a well-mannered sedan that balances comfort and economy with a genuinely entertaining driving character.

The car was a great value for the money I spent. It had plenty of features, and ultimately great MPG and price. I loved that it still has manufactuer warranty and is a certified-pre owned. I did wish it supported Hyundai's digital key, but the BlueLink is another phenomenal feature, other than having to pay every year. For other cars in this class such as the Civic, Corolla, Forte, K4, Impreza etc. It is reasonably priced, only competitive with the K4. If I wanted all of these features in one of those other vehicles especiallt the Civic I would be paying significantly more.

I live the interior and the way it drives. It feels very much my style and I can see myself driving it every day.

I was going to buy a new one except for a design I cannot live with. The passenger side grab bar is unsightly. If something falls on the floor, you wont be able to grab it at a stop light. It is located between the gear shift and the passenger side. Looks like a hospital bed rail. Pass. Drives great. Ive bought 4 Hyundais so I like them but I would rather go for an older model without the bar. Thats what I am looking for now.

It also offers multiple powertrain options and a manual transmission, which broadens its appeal if you want either efficiency or a more engaging drive.
The trade-offs are clear: the design may be polarizing, the base engine is underwhelming, and the interior materials feel cheap.
With 33.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
The 2024 Elantra is positioned as a well-built compact sedan with a five-year/60,000-mile warranty and three years of maintenance included, which helps reduce early ownership costs.
Its expert evaluation also points to a car that is competent in everyday use, with a well-mannered character and a strong balance of comfort, economy, and sportiness. The performance notes describe the standard setup as adequate around town, while the more powerful versions add real verve and stronger drivability.
For long-term used ownership, the main risk is less about outright durability and more about choosing the right version and condition, since the cheaper trims can feel less refined and less satisfying to live with.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status does not replace a proper inspection. Focus on how the car presents inside and out, since trim differences can be significant and some versions are much better equipped than others. A pre-purchase inspection should pay close attention to the drivetrain, electronics, and any signs of hard use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SE is the most stripped-down version, while upper trims add more style, better materials, and more equipment. The Limited stands out for its richer feature set, while the N Line adds a more athletic character.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder is adequate in town but weak and loud on the highway. The N Line’s turbocharged 1.6-liter is the stronger choice if you want more response, while the performance-focused N is the most powerful option.
- Safety package: The standard driver-assistance suite includes forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and auto high beams. SEL trims with the Convenience Package and Limited trims add cyclist detection, front cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control, while the Limited also adds rear emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and Highway Driving Assist.
- Infotainment: The SE uses an 8-inch touchscreen, while SEL-and-above trims get a 10.25-inch screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not supported, but the system is quick and customizable. Blind-spot cameras are available only on the Limited.
- Fuel efficiency: The standard non-hybrid setup is rated at 32/41/36 mpg for the base SE and 31/40/34 mpg for the SEL and Limited. The N Line returns 28/35/31 mpg.
Which 2024 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited, and N Line.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the basics at the lowest price, but it also has the simplest screen setup and the least upscale feel. It makes sense if you want the cheapest path into the lineup and can live without the extra polish and features of the higher trims.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger touchscreen and a more complete equipment mix without jumping all the way to the top. If you want a balanced daily driver, this is the trim to focus on first.
- Limited: This is the most feature-rich non-performance trim, with the strongest safety and convenience content, including the available blind-spot camera view and Highway Driving Assist. It suits you if you want the most comfort and tech in a conventional Elantra.
- N Line: This is the enthusiast pick, with the turbocharged engine, quicker-shifting transmission, and a more engaging chassis balance. Choose it if you care more about driving enjoyment than maximum efficiency.
The Limited is the trim that adds the most advanced safety and driver-assistance content.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Elantra?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 6,394 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.96% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 86.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,470.99, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $19,907 sits slightly below last year's $20,947.
That softer pricing suggests the Elantra has become a more buyer-friendly used-car proposition, which can work against you if you're selling. If you own one, you may need to price competitively to stand out, especially because the market already shows a meaningful share of good or great deals.
For a future seller, the upside is that the Elantra still has broad appeal thanks to its range of trims and strong value story. The downside is that used-market shoppers have options, so condition and equipment will matter a lot when you go to resell.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2024 Elantra received a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for the front passenger and five-star ratings for the driver and for front and rear passengers in two side tests. The IIHS named it a Top Safety Pick.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and auto high beams. SEL trims with the Convenience Package and Limited trims add cyclist detection, front cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control, while the Limited adds rear emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and Highway Driving Assist.
A key caveat is that IIHS did not perform all of its standard crash tests, and the new frontal moderate-overlap test showed worse results than the 2021 Elantra. Rear-passenger injury risk was also higher despite added rear side airbags, and there are no frontal knee airbags.
Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.96% compared with last year.
- The 2024 adds more style and standard equipment while keeping the Elantra’s broad trim range and sporty, well-constructed character.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $19,381, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $19,907 average.
- It offers roomy, safe, efficient, and technologically advanced transportation.
The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year updates, the 2024 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2023 is the smarter value play and still gives you much of the Elantra’s core appeal.
