CarGurus Analysis: 2024 Hyundai Elantra
overall

Summary
With 235 currently listed for sale near Washington, DC and an average price of $19,013.00, 51.5% of 2024 Hyundai Elantras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 Hyundai Elantra 3 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
100.0% of 2024 Elantra models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra stands out as a compact sedan that leans hard into style and versatility. It is described as the sportiest-looking and most versatile compact car on sale, and for 2024 it receives a mild refresh that adds more style and standard equipment. That combination gives it a stronger presence than the bargain-focused image Hyundai once had with the Elantra nameplate.
What makes this version appealing is that it is presented as a genuinely sporty, well-constructed car that competes on how it drives and feels, while still offering a wider range of trim levels. The available manual transmission adds to its enthusiast appeal, and the multiple powertrain options broaden its reach for buyers who want either efficiency or a more engaging setup. At the same time, the design may be polarizing, the base engine is called underwhelming, and the interior materials are said to feel cheap, so its strengths come with some clear tradeoffs.
Overall, the 2024 Hyundai Elantra is distinctive because it tries to be more than just inexpensive transportation. It aims to balance comfort, economy, and sportiness in a way that makes it feel more substantial than the old Elantra formula, even if some buyers may still be put off by the styling and cabin materials.

The car was a great value for the money I spent. It had plenty of features, and ultimately great MPG and price. I loved that it still has manufactuer warranty and is a certified-pre owned. I did wish it supported Hyundai's digital key, but the BlueLink is another phenomenal feature, other than having to pay every year. For other cars in this class such as the Civic, Corolla, Forte, K4, Impreza etc. It is reasonably priced, only competitive with the K4. If I wanted all of these features in one of those other vehicles especiallt the Civic I would be paying significantly more.

I live the interior and the way it drives. It feels very much my style and I can see myself driving it every day.

I was going to buy a new one except for a design I cannot live with. The passenger side grab bar is unsightly. If something falls on the floor, you wont be able to grab it at a stop light. It is located between the gear shift and the passenger side. Looks like a hospital bed rail. Pass. Drives great. Ive bought 4 Hyundais so I like them but I would rather go for an older model without the bar. Thats what I am looking for now.

The 2024 Elantra is described as a sporty, well-constructed compact sedan that competes on how it drives and feels, while also offering a wider range of trim levels. That makes it a strong fit if you want something more distinctive than basic transportation, especially since the available manual transmission adds enthusiast appeal and the lineup spans efficiency-focused and more engaging setups.
The trade-offs are clear: the design may be polarizing, the base engine is underwhelming, and the interior materials feel cheap. Those drawbacks matter most if you prioritize a quiet cabin or upscale feel over personality and breadth of choice.
With 28.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have enough market flexibility to shop selectively.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
The 2024 Elantra is presented as a well-built compact sedan with a strong value proposition, and Hyundai backs it with three years of maintenance plus a five-year/60,000-mile warranty. The expert verdict also describes it as well-mannered and properly sorted.
Its performance notes point to a car that is generally competent and easy to live with, though the base setup is weak on the highway and the sportier versions bring their own compromises. The cost-effectiveness notes reinforce that you’re getting a lot of car for the money, which helps offset some ownership concerns.
For long-term used ownership, the main risk is that the most desirable versions may have been driven harder, so condition and maintenance history matter more than the badge alone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, cabin wear, and how the car drives at low and highway speeds. If you’re considering a sportier trim, pay extra attention to drivetrain smoothness and signs of harder use.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE, SEL, and Limited lose the lowered stance and sporty bumpers that help the car look more distinctive, while the base SE also misses the custom gauge layouts found on upper trims.
- Powertrain: The common 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet is adequate around town but very weak and loud on the highway; the 1.6-liter turbo-four with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft is the stronger choice if you want more verve.
- Safety package: The SE and N come standard with forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and auto high beams. SEL trims with the Convenience Package and Limited trims add cyclist detection, front cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. The Limited adds rear emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and Highway Driving Assist.
- Infotainment: SEL-and-above trims get a 10.25-inch touchscreen, while the SE uses an 8-inch screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not supported, but the system is quick and customizable. Blind-spot cameras are available only on the Limited trim.
- Fuel efficiency: The base SE is rated at 32/41/36 mpg, the SEL and Limited at 31/40/34 mpg, the N Line at 28/35/31 mpg, and the hybrid Blue at 51 mpg city, 58 mpg highway, and 54 mpg combined.
Which 2024 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited, N Line, and N.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and the best fuel economy among the gas-only trims, but you give up the larger touchscreen and some of the nicer tech and visual upgrades.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 10.25-inch touchscreen and a more complete equipment mix without jumping into the sportier pricing of the N Line.
- Limited: Choose this if you want the most comfort and convenience features, including the available blind-spot camera views, Highway Driving Assist, and the most advanced parking and braking aids.
- N Line: This is the right pick if you want the strongest balance of comfort and response, plus the 201-hp turbo engine, eight-speaker Bose stereo, and wireless charging.
- N: Pick this only if you want the most serious performance character, since it brings the most power and the most aggressive driving setup.
The Limited is the only trim with blind-spot camera views and Highway Driving Assist, so it stands apart if safety tech is your priority.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Elantra?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 6,232 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.41% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 86.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,472.38, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $20,037 sits slightly below last year's $20,962.
That decline suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more selectively now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect depreciation pressure to remain part of the ownership equation.
The good news is that the Elantra’s broad trim range and strong value story can help it stay relevant with used shoppers. The downside is that a softer market today can make it harder to recover a premium later unless your car is especially clean and well equipped.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2024 Elantra earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with four stars for the front passenger and five stars for the driver and for front and rear passengers in the two side tests. The IIHS named it a Top Safety Pick.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and auto high beams. SEL trims with the Convenience Package and Limited trims add cyclist detection, front cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control, while the Limited adds rear emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and Highway Driving Assist.
A key caveat is that IIHS did not perform all of its standard crash tests, and the new moderate-overlap frontal test showed worse results than the 2021 Elantra. Rear passengers also had a higher injury risk despite added rear side airbags, and there are no frontal knee airbags.
Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.41% compared with last year.
- For 2024, a mild refresh brings more style and standard equipment.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $19,546, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $20,037 average.
- It offers roomy, safe, efficient, and technologically advanced transportation.
The bottom line: Choose the 2024 if you want the fresher look, added equipment, and broader shopping pool. If your priority is saving money, the 2023 is the smarter value pick, especially if you find one in strong condition with the right equipment.
