The main trade-offs are concerns around emissions controls and infotainment reliability, plus the need for a data plan in some setups. Even so, the truck’s broad appeal and upscale ambition make it a strong fit if you want one pickup to cover multiple roles. On the other hand, some owners mention infotainment concerns and emissions-control issues, so used buyers should pay close attention to service history and how the truck has been used. For long-term ownership, that means you should prioritize a clean maintenance record and verify that any software or system quirks have been addressed.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 GMC Sierra 1500?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and inspect any candidate closely, especially if you are shopping higher-trim trucks with more equipment to verify. Focus on condition, signs of heavy use, and whether the infotainment and driver-assistance features work as expected. If you are considering a diesel or a more complex luxury trim, make sure the truck’s maintenance history is complete and consistent.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate models. The Pro is aimed primarily at commercial fleets, while the higher trims add more luxury and off-road capability, and the base Pro is much more basic than the rest.
• Powertrain: Base models use a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. You can also get a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft, a 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft, or a 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel inline-six with 305 hp and 495 lb-ft. The diesel stands out for smooth, linear power and strong towing-friendly torque.
• Safety package: GMC’s standard suite includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, and the Safety Alert driver’s seat are optional, so lower trims do not get the full set.
• Infotainment: Pro models get a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SLE and higher trims upgrade to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.4-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Google Built-In.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax diesel is EPA-rated at 25 mpg combined with RWD and 24 mpg combined with 4WD. The TurboMax four-cylinder can reach 20 mpg combined in some configurations, while the V8s return a few mpg less.

Which 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the work-focused starting point, but it is much more basic than the rest of the lineup, with a 7-inch touchscreen and wired smartphone connectivity. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and do not need luxury features.
• SLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, the 13.4-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Google Built-In. It gives you the biggest jump in everyday usability without pushing into luxury-trim pricing.
• Elevation: This trim sits above SLE and keeps the upgraded tech while adding a more distinctive look. It is a good fit if you want a more stylish truck without jumping all the way to the premium end.
• SLT: This is the better choice if you want a more upscale feel and more comfort-oriented equipment. It suits buyers who want a nicer daily driver but do not need the full luxury focus of Denali.
• AT4: This is the off-road-oriented choice, with a 2-inch lift kit, Rancho monotube shocks, a locking rear differential, and skid plates. It is the right pick if you want trail capability without going all the way to the most extreme version.
• AT4X: This trim adds a front locker and more sophisticated Multimatc DSSV dampers, making it the more serious off-road option. It is for buyers who want the most rugged hardware in the lineup.
• Denali: This is the luxury-focused trim with the signature chrome grille and available 22-inch wheels. It is the right choice if you want the Sierra’s upscale personality without going to the topmost trim.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the most luxurious version, with features like heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, heated rear seats, a power sunroof, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Choose it if you want the most premium Sierra experience.

Denali and Denali Ultimate models can also be equipped with Super Cruise, while lower trims do not get that hands-free system.

• Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

If you find a listing below $47,104, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $47,104 sits slightly below last year's $53,044.

That decline suggests the truck is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago, which can make future resale a little more competitive for sellers. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less depreciation pressure than someone who paid closer to last year’s average. The strongest resale prospects will usually come from well-kept trucks with desirable equipment and clean histories. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab earns Good ratings in the IIHS driver-side small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and side crash tests, but Marginal in the passenger-side small overlap front test and Acceptable in the updated side crash test. It also earns five-star ratings from NHTSA overall and in side crash protection, with four-star ratings in rollover and frontal crash testing.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard driver-assistance suite includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, and the Safety Alert driver’s seat are optional, so you should not assume every truck has the same safety equipment. Super Cruise is available on Denali and Denali Ultimate models, and it adds hands-free driving capability for long-term use with a subscription. The mixed IIHS results are the main caveat, especially the passenger-side small overlap score.

Should I buy a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.20% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers multiple powertrain choices, easy-to-use technology, and a fuel-efficient diesel engine.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $44,110, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $47,104 average.
• It leans even more heavily into luxury with the Denali Ultimate formula.

The bottom line: If you want the broader current-year market and a truck that still offers strong equipment and a softer price trend, the 2024 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2023 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the upscale Sierra character.
