Used 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 11.32% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 9,711 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare across trims and configurations.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Yes — 4.6/5 owners rate it highly, and the expert rating is 7.2/10. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise the powerful engine, comfortable and spacious interior, and well-equipped features. You also see repeated appreciation for its design and luxury touches, which helps it stand out if you want a truck that feels more upscale than basic. The main trade-offs are concerns around emissions controls and some infotainment reliability complaints, especially around the need for a data plan.

That fits the Sierra 1500’s role well: you can configure it as a work truck, an off-roader, or a long-distance cruiser, so it makes the most sense if you want one pickup to cover a lot of ground. With 36.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s a meaningful share of attractive inventory to shop.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a truck that feels powerful, comfortable, and well equipped, while also suggesting that many buyers have had a positive day-to-day ownership experience. The reliability-related concerns that do surface are centered more on infotainment and emissions-control frustrations than on broad mechanical complaints.

The Duramax diesel is described as smooth, linear, and well suited to towing, which supports the sense that the Sierra can be a dependable long-haul truck when properly configured. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure any electronics or emissions-related issues have been addressed before you buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 GMC Sierra 1500?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, especially if it has been used for towing, commuting, or fleet duty. A pre-purchase inspection matters here because the Sierra’s appeal depends heavily on configuration, equipment, and condition. Pay close attention to infotainment behavior, cabin wear, and whether the truck’s features match the trim level you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Pro is aimed at commercial fleets and is the most basic-looking version, while Denali and Denali Ultimate bring the upscale chrome grille, available 22-inch wheels, and power running boards. The base Pro also has a more basic cabin presentation, so you should expect fewer comfort and convenience features than on higher trims.
• Powertrain: Base models use a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, while the lineup also includes 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8s plus a 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel. The diesel stands out for strong torque, smooth delivery, and better fuel economy than the gasoline engines.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, and the Safety Alert driver’s seat are optional, and Super Cruise is available on Denali and Denali Ultimate.
• Infotainment: Pro models get a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. SLE and higher trims upgrade to a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13.4-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Google Built-In.
• Fuel efficiency: The Duramax diesel is EPA-rated at 25 mpg combined with RWD and 24 mpg combined with 4WD. The TurboMax four-cylinder can reach 20 mpg combined in some configurations, while the V8s return a few mpg less.

Which 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 is offered in 8 trim levels: Pro, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Pro: This is the work-focused starting point, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost entry into the Sierra lineup and can live with the most basic infotainment and cabin presentation.
• SLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it unlocks the larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, the 13.4-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Google Built-In.
• Elevation: Choose this if you want a more upscale look than Pro or SLE without jumping all the way to the luxury-focused trims.
• SLT: This is the step-up choice if you want a more premium-feeling truck with broader comfort and convenience appeal.
• AT4: Pick this if you want the off-road setup, including the 2-inch lift kit, Rancho monotube shocks, locking rear differential, and skid plates.
• AT4X: This is the more serious off-road version, adding a front locker and more sophisticated Multimatic DSSV dampers.
• Denali: This is the luxury-oriented choice, with the signature chrome grille and available premium touches like power running boards.
• Denali Ultimate: This is the top luxury pick if you want the most comfort and convenience, including features like heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, heated rear seats, a power sunroof, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Denali and Denali Ultimate can also be equipped with Super Cruise, while the lower trims do not get that hands-free system.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 GMC Sierra 1500?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,711 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.32% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 92.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $46,883, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $46,883 sits slightly below last year's $52,869.

That price movement suggests the Sierra 1500 has become more accessible for used buyers, which can help future resale if you buy at the right point in the cycle. If you pay close to the current average, you may have less room for appreciation than a buyer who finds a lower-priced listing. The good news is that strong demand for well-equipped full-size trucks can still support values, especially for desirable trims and powertrains.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 safe?

The 2024 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab earns a Good rating in the IIHS driver-side small overlap front crash test, an Acceptable rating in the updated side crash test, and Good ratings in the original moderate overlap front and side crash tests. It also earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five-star side-crash protection and four-star frontal and rollover ratings.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and a rear-seat reminder. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and park assist are optional, so you should verify which driver-assistance features are actually fitted on the used truck you’re considering. Super Cruise is available on Denali and Denali Ultimate, and it adds hands-free driving capability for long-term use with a subscription.

The uneven IIHS results are the main caution point here, especially the Marginal passenger-side small overlap result and the Acceptable updated side-crash score.

Should I buy a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 36.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 model keeps the lineup broad while adding a fuel-efficient diesel engine and available Super Cruise.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $43,970, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $46,883 average.
• It leans even more into luxury with the Denali Ultimate formula and strong cabin-space appeal.

The 2024 is the better pick if you want the latest version of the Sierra’s broad capability, updated feature mix, and stronger market context. If your priority is saving money, the 2023 is the more budget-friendly path and still gives you much of the same upscale truck experience.
