CarGurus Analysis: 2024 Ford Mustang

Summary
With 3,409 currently listed for sale and an average price of $37,871, 32.9% of 2024 Ford Mustangs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 Ford Mustang 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2024 Ford Mustang stands out as the last remaining muscle car, and that alone gives it a special place in the market. It returns for a final tour as its primary rivals head to retirement, and this seventh-generation pony car is based on its predecessor but receives numerous upgrades that significantly improve its interior and technology. That combination of nostalgia and modernization helps the Mustang feel familiar while still moving forward.
It also remains appealing as a fun car on a budget, with the kind of performance and driving character that keep it true to its name. The available strengths are clear: a powerful engine, great handling, and excellent value for money. At the same time, it is not the most practical choice, with a cramped back seat, not much cargo space, and a noisy cabin. For buyers who want a distinctive performance car and can live with those compromises, the 2024 Ford Mustang makes a strong case for itself.

One of the few cars yet available with a manual transmission. Gotta love the V8. Imho, UI for all the tech could be a bit more intuitive and easy to use but, some of this is my need to learn it. Sure wish they still provided a printed owners manual.

How much does the 2024 Ford Mustang cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $37,888 |
| Year-Round Low | $35,894 |
| Year-Round High | $39,750 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $39,741 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.66% |
Prices have softened 4.66% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,368 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2024 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — the 2024 Ford Mustang earns a 4.75/5 user rating, and our experts give it 7.17/10. The model scores 8/10 across Performance and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its speed, handling, and driving experience, along with the engine sound and updated technology. The Mustang also gets credit for comfort and features in higher trims, especially heated and ventilated seats, while the manual transmission remains a standout for drivers who want a more engaging feel.
The trade-offs are familiar for a muscle car: the back seat is cramped, cargo space is limited, and the cabin can be noisy. That said, the Mustang’s appeal is strongest if you want a distinctive performance car that still feels modern enough for everyday use.
Good and great deals account for 33.3% of listings, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2024 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with owners repeatedly highlighting its performance, driving experience, and the confidence that comes from a car they enjoy living with over time.
The expert evaluation also describes the Mustang as approachable and easy to drive, which supports the idea that it should be a straightforward car to count on. The available maintenance perk adds to the ownership appeal.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about choosing a well-kept example that has been maintained carefully and driven without abuse.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Ford Mustang?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear, signs of hard driving, and whether the car’s condition matches its mileage and asking price. It also helps to compare trim equipment closely, since the Mustang’s value changes a lot depending on how much performance and tech you want.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The cabin gets a more modern look with a glass panel that houses the digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen, and materials quality improves with fewer hard plastics and more lightly padded surfaces. Base models use two separate screens, while Premium models place them in a single enclosure.
- Powertrain: The entry engine is a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive. The GT uses a 5.0-liter V8 with 480 hp and 415 lb-ft, or 486 hp and 418 lb-ft with the optional Active Exhaust; it comes standard with a six-speed manual and offers a 10-speed automatic.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and a safe passenger exit warning are available, not standard.
- Infotainment: Every model gets a 13.2-inch touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, Amazon Alexa integration is included, and a Wi-Fi hotspot comes on all models. A native navigation system and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system are optional.
- Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder EcoBoost is rated at 22 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. The V8 GT automatic is rated at 15 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined, while the manual drops fuel economy by 1 mpg across the board.
Which 2024 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2024 Ford Mustang is offered in 2 trim levels: EcoBoost and GT.
Here's the short version:
- EcoBoost: This is the value play if you want the Mustang experience at the lowest entry price. It brings the turbocharged four-cylinder, strong everyday performance, and the same core tech and safety equipment as the rest of the lineup, making it the best fit if you care most about price and efficiency.
- GT: This is the trim to choose if you want the classic muscle-car feel. The V8, standard manual transmission, and stronger performance make it the more rewarding pick for enthusiasts, even though it costs more and uses more fuel.
Standard safety equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Ford Mustang?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.
- Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,368 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.66% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 89.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $35,894, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $37,888 sits slightly below last year's $39,741.
That price movement suggests the Mustang has become a bit more buyer-friendly in the near term, which can help you if you are shopping now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim desirability rather than on broad market momentum alone.
The good news is that the Mustang still has strong enthusiast appeal, and that tends to support demand when you eventually sell. Well-kept examples with the right equipment should remain easier to move than less desirable configurations.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2024 Ford Mustang safe?
The 2024 Ford Mustang is not yet rated by NHTSA or IIHS, but the previous generation on which this model is based earned five-star ratings across the board from NHTSA and a Good rating in all IIHS tests except the driver-side small overlap test, where it scored Acceptable.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams. Adaptive cruise control and a safe passenger exit warning are available as options.
The main caveat is that crash-test results for this model year are not yet available, so you should lean more heavily on the standard safety equipment and the vehicle’s condition when evaluating a used example.
Should I buy a 2024 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.66% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2024 model brings a major interior and technology update while keeping the Mustang’s familiar performance character.
The bottom line: If you want the newest version of the Mustang’s updated cabin, tech, and classic muscle-car formula, the 2024 is the one to target. If your priority is stretching your budget further, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2024 is the better pick when you want the freshest mix of performance and modernization.
