How much does the 2024 Ford Explorer cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 9,591 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy number of options to compare.

Is the 2024 Ford Explorer a good car?

With a user rating of 3/5, the 2024 Ford Explorer looks like a solid but selective buy rather than a universal recommendation. The overview points to a midsize SUV that has moved into a more premium, car-like role, with a rear-wheel-drive bias that improves handling and a chassis setup that helps it feel lively for a family SUV. It also stands out for its strong equipment list and flexible seating for up to seven, which makes it appealing if you want space, tech, and everyday usability in one package.

Good and great deals account for 35.2% of listings, so you still have a meaningful share of competitively priced inventory to shop.

Is the 2024 Ford Explorer reliable?

The 2024 Ford Explorer is described as the nicest to drive of all the generations, and it also benefits from a better reliability record than its predecessors. Even so, the overview notes that the initial 2020 models had a relatively high number of gremlins, which is a reminder that condition and maintenance history matter a lot on the used market.

For long-term ownership, you should still budget for careful inspection and be selective about the specific vehicle you choose, especially if you want to reduce the risk of inherited issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Ford Explorer?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the specific listing matches its advertised condition. Put inspection priority on signs of prior damage, uneven wear, and any evidence that the SUV has been used hard or poorly maintained. Focus on overall condition, because a clean history does not replace a thorough pre-purchase check.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Ford Explorer?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,591 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,957, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Ford Explorer's resale value?

The current average of $33,937 sits slightly below last year's $33,969.

That small decline suggests the Explorer has been holding value fairly steadily rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that kind of pricing pattern points to a market that is stable enough to plan around, but not so strong that you should expect a big premium just because the vehicle is a recent model year. If you buy well and keep the SUV in strong condition, you should be in a reasonable position when it is time to resell.

Should I buy a 2024 Ford Explorer or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $39,255, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $33,937 average.
• It adds updated infotainment, improved interior quality, and a simplified lineup.

The bottom line:
Choose the 2024 if you want the better value and a broad pool of used listings to shop from. If you care more about the newest tech, fresher styling, and a more modern-feeling cabin, the 2025 is the stronger upgrade path, but you will pay more for it. Price-sensitive buyers should start with the 2024 and focus on clean, well-kept examples.
