How much does the 2024 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.79% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,259 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2024 BMW 5 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

The redesigned 2024 BMW 5 Series is positioned as a midsize luxury sedan that leans heavily on design, technology, and comfort. It stands out for its great ride quality, comfortable character, and quiet cabin, which make it easy to live with day to day.

The trade-offs are clear: it is described as lacking much of the joy many buyers expect from a BMW, and it also brings poor fuel economy. Cargo space is another limitation, especially with the spare tire in place.

For you, that means this is a strong fit if you want a refined luxury sedan that works well as a calm daily driver and long-distance cruiser. If you want a more engaging BMW experience, this one may feel less distinctive.

The market shows 36.7% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2024 BMW 5 Series is presented as a quiet, comfortable, and capable luxury sedan, and its powertrain is described as quiet and smooth with an eight-speed automatic that shifts almost imperceptibly. The 48-volt mild-hybrid system also aids efficiency.

BMW also includes complimentary scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a high-tech luxury sedan can become expensive if you inherit neglected maintenance or unresolved electronic issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 BMW 5 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of the cabin, electronics, and cargo area. Because this model emphasizes technology and comfort, it makes sense to check that the infotainment system, controls, and driver-assistance features all work as intended. You should also pay close attention to tire and wheel condition, since ride quality and road noise matter a lot in a car like this.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 530i M Sport test car was described as stylish and plush, with M Sport bodywork, Smoke-color Veganza artificial leather, aluminum trim, and artistic metal speaker grilles. The base setup also relies heavily on screen-based controls, and many surfaces can create reflections and glare, so you should make sure the interior layout works for you.
• Powertrain: The 530i uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, plus a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. It is described as quiet, smooth, and capable in everyday driving, with strong freeway merging and easy passing.
• Safety package: Active Driving Assistant is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. BMW Assist eCall is also standard. The Driving Assistant Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, lane-change assist, emergency stop assist, Distance Control, and Highway Assistant with Active Lane Change.
• Infotainment: The cabin uses a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 14.9-inch touchscreen under BMW Curved Display, running BMW Operating System 8.5. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with connected services, a personal eSIM 5G connection, SiriusXM 360L, navigation, and wireless smartphone charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The 530i is estimated at 30 mpg in combined driving, and the test car averaged 26.7 mpg during the week. It also returned 24.7 mpg on the evaluation loop.

Which 2024 BMW 5 Series trim should I buy?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 530i, 540i, i5 40, i5 M60.

Here's the short version:

• 530i: This is the best-value choice if you want the core 5 Series experience with the 255-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, the mild-hybrid system, and the standard tech and safety equipment. It is the trim most directly supported by the review content, and it suits you if you want the comfort-first character without paying for extra luxury add-ons.
• 540i: Choose this if you want more power than the 530i and are willing to pay for it. The source material identifies it as part of the gas lineup, but it does not provide additional equipment details here.
• i5 40: This is the electric entry in the lineup. The source material names it, but it does not provide further trim-specific detail here.
• i5 M60: This is the performance-oriented electric model in the lineup. The source material names it, but it does not provide further trim-specific detail here.

For safety, Active Driving Assistant is standard, while the more advanced Driving Assistant Professional Package is optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 BMW 5 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,259 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.79% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $42,889, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $42,889 sits slightly below last year's $46,512.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper what a future seller can expect. If you buy at a favorable price now and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 BMW 5 Series safe?

The 2024 BMW 5 Series earns a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW equips the 530i with Active Driving Assistant, a collection of safety features including forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. BMW Assist eCall is also standard, adding automatic collision notification and an SOS emergency request button.

For more advanced driver assistance, the Driving Assistant Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, lane-change assist, and emergency stop assist. Distance Control provides a hands-on semi-autonomous driving aid, while Highway Assistant with Active Lane Change is a hands-free semi-autonomous system for approved limited-access highways.

The car does not earn the higher Top Safety Pick+ rating because it has not been assessed in a new moderate-overlap frontal-impact evaluation.

Should I buy a 2024 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 36.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The redesigned 2024 BMW 5 Series is positioned as a midsize luxury sedan that leans heavily on design, technology, and comfort.

The bottom line: If you want the newest redesign with strong comfort, modern tech, and a softer used-market price than last year, the 2024 is the better path. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2024 gives you the freshest version of this comfort-first 5 Series formula.
