CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Toyota Sienna
overall

Summary
With 1,273 currently listed for sale and an average price of $42,423.00, 33.8% of 2023 Toyota Siennas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Toyota Sienna 4.11 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
87.7% of 2023 Sienna models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota Sienna stands out in the minivan class because it uses a standard hybrid engine. That alone gives it a different identity from many family haulers, and it helps explain why the Sienna is often appealing to shoppers who want practicality without giving up fuel efficiency. It is also described as spacious, which fits the minivan mission well, and its standard advanced safety features add to its family-friendly appeal.
At the same time, the 2023 Toyota Sienna is not without compromises. The second-row seats aren’t removable, which limits some of the flexibility buyers may expect from a minivan. It is also described as having sluggish acceleration and an irritating transmission, so drivers looking for quick responses may find it less satisfying. Even so, for buyers who prioritize efficiency, roominess, and safety, the Sienna offers a compelling mix of strengths.

Awesome ride, comfort and great mpg. Good looking too. However, backup camera resolution can be improved. Spare tire should come as standard in a minivan.

2023 Sienna XLE 7 passenger AWD My Grandchildrens Favorite! It has lots of room..they can slide the seats back and have living room comfort. They like the rear USB charging ports, rear AC/heat controls, and they can always fit friends back there with them, and their gear. I like it because its comfortable, safe, and gets 35 miles per gallon. The All Wheel Drive is best..most of those available are Front wheel drive. In recent snowstorms, I saw many other vehicles slid off the road, but I never spun a wheel with the AWD. Fantastic resale value, if I ever want to sell it, such as if my needs change. The hybrid is quiet, smooth, and, actually has more horsepower than the older Sienna V6, because the battery assists with extra power when in sport mode. Now, for what I dont like: Irritating Apple car play, when you plug the maps in, you have to wait, and wait, for the directions to appear. Too slow. Apparently, there is no way to upgrade to Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which apparenly solves that problem. Its unclear why Toyota cant/wont allow the software upgrade to make the Apple Car play faster and not frustrating. The back part of the van is difficult to enter, especially for large adults with knee problems. Young adults, under 200 pounds wont have a problem. We carry a step stool so my wife can enter the rear of the van when desired. I do agree, the 3rd seat, when folded down, kind of bounces, unless you set something on it like groceries, suitcases, cargo mat, etc, but that has never caused us any problem. While I have read of unable to start problems because the battery ran down mostly due to defective foot activated door sensors in the 2022 model, I have not had the problem in the 2023 Sienna. For that reason, I recommend avoiding the 2022 Sienna, and go with 2023. I have no desire to go out to my van, and then not be able to start it because the battery is dead, and for that to happen multiple times. I have never had a dead battery in my 2023. It works great every time, except for the issues I mentioned, above. Lastly, my Sienna came with only one key, this is as convient as a broken leg, and they take forever to get me the promised new key...which has never arrived.

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 1,319 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $40,926.65, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna a good car?
Generally — the 2023 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.11/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its fuel efficiency, spaciousness, and comfort, and many highlight the hybrid setup that delivers excellent gas mileage. The family-friendly cabin and practical packaging also come through strongly in owner feedback.
The trade-offs are familiar: acceleration is modest, engine noise can rise under load, and the infotainment experience can feel dated. For you, that means the Sienna makes the most sense if you value efficiency and space more than quick acceleration or cutting-edge tech.
With 32.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market activity to shop selectively without feeling rushed.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna reliable?
Owners rate it 4.11/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience centered on strong fuel economy, comfort, and family usefulness. The technology is described as reliable, and the hybrid setup supports the kind of long-term confidence many used buyers want.
The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Sienna’s technology is reliable, even if the interface itself feels older than some rivals. Toyota’s hybrid powertrain and standard safety equipment add to the sense that this is a vehicle built for steady, everyday use.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about core durability and more about whether a specific example has been maintained well and kept in good condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a vehicle history report on every candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the listing looks especially clean or especially cheap. Focus on cabin condition, seat wear, and how well the tech and safety systems operate, since those are the areas you’ll interact with every day.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LE is the entry point, while the XLE adds standard LED fog lights, power-sliding doors, and a power liftgate. The XLE is the better starting point if you want more everyday convenience.
- Powertrain: Every model uses a hybrid setup with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motors. Efficiency is a major strength, but acceleration is modest and the CVT can sound strained.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard, with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. The standard safety suite is a major selling point.
- Infotainment: The system uses a 9-inch touchscreen, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, an optional navigation system, and seven USB ports. CarPlay and Android Auto require a wired connection.
- Fuel efficiency: The Sienna is rated at 35 mpg city, 36 highway, and 35 combined with AWD, and 36 mpg across the board with FWD.
Which 2023 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?
The 2023 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, 25th Anniversary Special Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LE gets you into the Sienna, but the XLE is the better value if you want more convenience features. The XLE adds standard LED fog lights, power-sliding doors, and a power liftgate.
- Sweet-spot trim: The XLE is the best all-around pick for most shoppers because it adds the features families use most without pushing you into luxury pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The Platinum brings the most upscale feel, including higher-end interior materials and the most premium presentation in the lineup.
- Off-road trim: The 25th Anniversary Special Edition is a special appearance-focused model that sits below the Limited in price.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard, so even the lower trims start with a strong safety foundation.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,319 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 86.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,926.65, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Toyota Sienna's resale value?
The current average of $42,449 sits slightly below last year's $42,865.
That small decline suggests the market has stayed relatively stable rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For you, that usually means resale value is being supported by steady demand instead of short-term hype.
The Sienna’s strong efficiency, family-friendly packaging, and standard safety equipment help keep it appealing to used buyers. That kind of broad usefulness tends to soften depreciation compared with less practical vehicles.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.11/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna safe?
It earns five-star ratings from NHTSA, and the mechanically identical 2022 model received a Top Safety Pick+ designation from IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense is standard, and the Sienna also includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That gives you a broad safety net right from the base trim.
The main caveat is that the 2023 model had not yet been rated by IIHS at the time of the source material, so the strongest IIHS result cited is from the prior model year.
Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.11/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It combines strong efficiency with standard safety features and family-friendly packaging.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $37,176, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $42,449 average.
- It offers the same hybrid formula with a smooth, efficient setup.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $45,258, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $42,449 average.
- It keeps the same efficiency-focused formula with updated family-friendly practicality.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price stability, efficiency, and standard safety, the 2023 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 is the smarter value play; if you want to spend more for a newer model year, the 2024 is the natural upgrade path.
