Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Toyota Sienna earns a 4.1/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its fuel efficiency, spaciousness, and comfort, and many highlight the hybrid setup that delivers excellent gas mileage. It also fits well if you want a practical family hauler with strong cargo space and a roomy cabin.

The trade-offs are clear: acceleration is sluggish, the transmission can be irritating, and the tech experience can feel dated. For you, that means the Sienna makes the most sense if you value family utility and efficiency more than quick responses or a sporty drive.

Owners describe it as efficient, comfortable, and dependable for family use, with the hybrid setup standing out as a strength over time. The expert evaluation also notes that the technology is reliable despite its older interface.

Toyota’s hybrid powertrain and family-focused design point to a vehicle you can count on for regular use, though the sluggish acceleration and transmission behavior are worth factoring into long-term ownership expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the second row, infotainment operation, and overall cabin condition, since family use can leave visible wear. Focus on whether the vehicle’s features work as expected and whether the interior shows signs of heavy daily use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, and the 25th Anniversary Special Edition. The LE and XLE are the only trims that can seat eight, while the XLE adds standard LED fog lights, power-sliding doors, and a power liftgate.
• Powertrain: Every model uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid with two front-mounted electric motors, plus a third rear-mounted electric motor on AWD trims. The setup makes 245 net system horsepower and prioritizes efficiency over quick acceleration.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense-style driver assistance comes standard with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The Sienna uses a 9-inch touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but both require a wired connection. It also includes SiriusXM satellite radio, Bluetooth, an optional navigation system, and seven USB ports.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates AWD models at 35 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined, while FWD models return 36 mpg across the board.

Which 2023 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, Platinum, and 25th Anniversary Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Sienna formula at the lowest trim level. It makes sense if you want the hybrid efficiency and family-friendly space without paying for extras.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds standard LED fog lights, power-sliding doors, and a power liftgate. If you want the most useful everyday upgrades, start here.
• XSE: This trim leans into a sportier look, and the front-wheel-drive version gets 20-inch wheels. It suits you if style matters more than maximum practicality.
• Limited: This is the upscale comfort choice before the top trim. It’s the right move if you want a more premium-feeling family hauler.
• 25th Anniversary Special Edition: This trim sits just below the Limited and is aimed at shoppers who want a commemorative version with a more distinctive position in the lineup.
• Platinum: This is the top-shelf trim, and it brings the most upscale cabin presentation. It’s best if you want the most luxurious Sienna experience.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, so you can shop trims based on comfort, convenience, and style rather than needing to upgrade for core safety tech.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Sienna?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,889 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.76% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $40,287, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Sienna's resale value?

The current average of $40,287 sits slightly below last year's $41,863.

That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you should expect some depreciation pressure if you plan to trade in soon.

Even so, the Sienna’s efficiency and family-friendly reputation help support demand. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain the vehicle well, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Sienna safe?

The 2023 Toyota Sienna earns five-star ratings from NHTSA, and the mechanically identical 2022 model received a Top Safety Pick+ designation from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota equips the Sienna with a standard suite of driver assistance features that includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with steering assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. That standard safety coverage is a major strength if you’re shopping for a family vehicle.

The main caveat is that the 2023 model itself had not yet been rated by IIHS at the time of the review, even though the related 2022 version earned strong recognition.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It combines hybrid efficiency with standard safety features and family-friendly practicality.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $36,053, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $40,287 average.
• It carries over the redesigned hybrid formula and adds a Woodland trim for adventurous styling.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $43,854, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $40,287 average.
• It keeps the hybrid formula and adds optional all-wheel drive with updated family-hauler appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current pricing, strong efficiency, and standard safety, the 2023 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 can save you money while keeping the same core hybrid appeal.
