CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Toyota Crown
overall

Summary
With 377 currently listed for sale and an average price of $34,018.00, 31.8% of 2023 Toyota Crowns for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Toyota Crown 3.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.33 / 10.
86.7% of 2023 Crown models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota Crown stands out as Toyota’s bold new large sedan, and its most distinctive trait is the elevated ride that gives it a middle ground between a traditional sedan and an SUV. That unusual stance is paired with a striking design and fuel efficiency that should make it appealing to a wide range of shoppers.
It is also described as comfortable, which adds to its everyday appeal. The tradeoffs are clear, though: performance is fairly pedestrian, cargo space is limited, and the interior materials feel cheap. For buyers who value efficiency, style, and a more upright driving position over luxury or strong acceleration, the 2023 Toyota Crown offers a distinctive package.

Vehicle rides and drives GREAT! Vehicle has many safety features that enhance one’s experience behind the wheel… Excellent value, and I would say it compares to luxury vehicle at a reasonable price point…

Reviewed a 2023 Toyota Crown on May 29, 2023
I did driving Crown Platinum test several times and each time was disappointed. Limited head and shoulder room in comparison with my Avalon Limited 2011. More stiff suspension. During the last test the Crown Platinum had a permanent warning about the hybrid system mulfunction and check engine. And it was on a brand new car that had only 2 miles on the odometer. The dealer was not honest and told me that is normal. Very disappointed.

How much does the 2023 Toyota Crown cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $33,981 |
| Year-Round Low | $32,927.65 |
| Year-Round High | $34,906.03 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $34,912 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.67% |
Prices have softened 2.67% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 383 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $32,927.65, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Toyota Crown a good car?
It’s a compelling choice if you want a distinctive large sedan with a higher seating position, strong efficiency, and everyday comfort, but you should be realistic about its compromises. You’re looking at a 3.5/5 user rating and a 6.33/10 expert rating.
The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 8/10.
The Crown’s appeal comes from its unusual middle ground between a sedan and an SUV, plus its striking design and fuel efficiency. It’s also described as comfortable, which makes it easy to live with day to day.
The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, cargo space is limited, and the interior materials feel cheap. That means it fits you best if you value efficiency, style, and an upright driving position more than luxury or quick acceleration.
With 34.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market softness to make careful shopping worthwhile.
Is the 2023 Toyota Crown reliable?
The Crown is presented as a comfort-focused hybrid with a standard AWD system and a strong efficiency story, which points to an ownership experience centered more on ease of use than drama. Its base hybrid powertrain is described as economical, and the cabin is tuned for quiet, relaxed driving.
Toyota also notes that the standard hybrid system is the economical choice over the Hybrid Max, and the Crown’s fuel efficiency is highlighted as its most impressive trait. The performance notes suggest the base setup is more than adequate for most drivers, even if it isn’t especially quick.
The standard hybrid system is the one that best supports long-term ownership value, especially if you want to keep running costs in check. For used buyers, the main risk is less about outright speed and more about whether the car has been maintained well enough to preserve its efficiency and smooth operation.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Crown?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean title alone doesn’t tell you how the car was driven or maintained. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin, electronics, and hybrid system behavior, since those are the areas most likely to affect your day-to-day satisfaction.
Focus on whether the car feels as comfortable and refined as you expect, and pay attention to any signs that the interior has worn faster than you’d like. If you’re comparing listings, make sure the equipment level matches what you want before you commit.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Crown’s elevated ride height, digital instrument panel, large horizontal touchscreen, and modern cabin design are part of its appeal, but the interior also uses a mix of hard plastics and cushioned touch points. The top Platinum trim adds a two-tone color option, while the base setup is more straightforward.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid with 236 horsepower and on-demand AWD, while the Platinum can be equipped with the Hybrid Max powertrain that uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a stronger rear electric motor for 340 horsepower. The base hybrid is the efficiency play, while the Hybrid Max is the stronger performer.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes frontal and cross-traffic collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, and a rear-seat-passenger reminder. The Platinum trim adds a semi-automated parallel parking system.
- Infotainment: Every trim gets a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, OTA software updates, and a wireless charging pad. Higher trims can upgrade to an 11-speaker JBL premium audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: Toyota estimates the base hybrid at 42 mpg city, 41 mpg highway, and 41 mpg combined. The Hybrid Max is rated at 29 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.

The 2023 Toyota Crown is offered in 3 trim levels: XLE, Limited, Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- XLE: This is the value-focused choice if you want the Crown’s core appeal without paying for extras. You still get the elevated ride, standard AWD, the 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, and the efficient base hybrid powertrain, so it covers the essentials well.
- Limited: This is the trim to consider if you want a more upscale feel without jumping to the top price tier. It builds on the base setup with the same core hybrid efficiency and adds more of the comfort-and-tech appeal that makes the Crown distinctive, making it the best-value pick for many shoppers.
- Platinum: This is the one to choose if you want the strongest performance and the most equipment. It can be equipped with the Hybrid Max powertrain, adds adaptive suspension, includes the semi-automated parallel parking system, and offers the digital key feature as standard.
The Platinum trim adds a semi-automated parallel parking system, while the digital key is standard on Platinum and available on Limited.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Crown?
This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 383 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.67% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 87.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $32,927.65, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Toyota Crown's resale value?
The current average of $33,981 sits slightly below last year's $34,912.
That price movement suggests the Crown has softened enough to help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may need to be more competitive on asking price. If you buy near the lower end of the range, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation exposure later.
The Crown’s strong efficiency and distinctive positioning should help it hold interest, but resale will still depend heavily on trim, condition, and mileage. If you plan to sell later, the most marketable examples will likely be the ones that balance equipment, condition, and sensible pricing.
Is the 2023 Toyota Crown safe?
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety features include frontal and cross-traffic collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, and a rear-seat-passenger reminder. The Platinum trim adds a semi-automated parallel parking system.
The adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are described as well-tuned and helpful, but the Proactive Driving Assist features can feel intrusive. Some of those systems can be disabled, though not all were fully shut off in the pre-production vehicle.
Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Crown or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.67% compared with last year.
- The all-new Crown’s unique middle ground between a large sedan and an SUV, plus its standout efficiency, is exactly what you want.
The bottom line: If you want the Crown’s distinctive design, elevated driving position, and strong fuel economy, the 2023 is the right place to start. If you’re mainly shopping on price, you should still compare listings carefully and focus on the cleanest, best-priced examples rather than paying extra for equipment you won’t use.
