The Toyota Crown in its modern iteration made its way to the U.S. as an all-new, lifted sedan in 2023. Though the Crown is often seen as a replacement for the full-size Avalon, it technically sits in the full-size car segment. However, it's distinguished from the rest of the class by its elevated ride height, standard hybrid powertrain, and all-wheel drive. Primary competitors include the Toyota Camry, the Honda Accord, the Hyundai Sonata, and the Kia K5. The 2027 Toyota Crown has four trims—XLE, Limited, Nightshade, and Platinum.

What’s New for the 2027 Toyota Crown
The 2027 Toyota Crown gets a significant refresh, with exterior updates such as a sculpted rear bumper and new glossy black accents. The XLE, Limited, and Nightshade trims also get standard paddle shifters, and the Limited trim now gets a standard surround-view camera system, traffic-jam assist, and a digital key. The biggest change for 2027, however, is that the bottom three trims now upgrade to the next-generation Toyota Hybrid System 5 (THS 5), which has a more responsive power delivery.
Design
The Toyota Crown combines sporty styling with a fastback rear and crossover-inspired stance. Standard wheels are 19-inch multi-spoke, two-tone alloys, but 21-inch wheels in various finishes become standard on higher trim levels. There aren’t any appearance packages, but buyers can opt for the Nightshade trim with black exterior accents and wheels as well as dark badging. Additionally, the Platinum trim offers a sporty two-tone paint option for $1,025 with a black hood and roof.
Powertrain
The 2027 Toyota Crown offers two powertrain options, both of which are hybrid. The primary powertrain upgrades to Toyota's latest THS 5 hybrid system, which is more of an evolution than a completely new setup. As before, it pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with front and rear electric motors to deliver a combined 236 horsepower. Rather than more power or higher fuel economy numbers, this new system offers better power delivery and more responsive acceleration. The top-tier, performance-focused Hybrid Max powertrain is unchanged, and only available for the Platinum trim level. It has a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with two electric motors to deliver a combined 340 hp. All-wheel drive is standard on all models. Estimated fuel economy for the base hybrid powertrain rings in at 42 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway, and the Hybrid Max delivers 29 mpg and 32 mpg respectively.
Interior
The Toyota Crown seats five passengers and, with 38.9 inches of rear legroom, adult passengers will be comfortable in the back seat. Even though it has a liftback shape, the 2027 Crown has a traditional sedan-style trunk, and its 15.2 cubic feet of cargo space is competitive in the full-size segment, although the Honda Accord bests it. Positioned as a more premium model than the Camry, the Crown comes standard with leather seats and standard premium features such as heated and ventilated front seats, as well as power-adjustable driver and front-passenger seats. A panoramic fixed-glass roof is not available on the base XLE trim, but it’s standard for Nightshade trim level and above.
Technology
Like most Toyotas, the 2027 Crown comes with a lot of standard technology features, including a 12.3-inch digital cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a wireless phone charger. The Crown also offers numerous connected services, including remote connectivity to your car, cloud navigation, personalized service updates, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and enhanced roadside assistance. There are free trials of varying length for each of these services, after which subscription fees apply. Available tech features include multi-beam LED headlights, a JBL premium audio system, rain-sensing wipers, a hands-free traffic jam assistance function, and a digital key. Tech features only available on the top Platinum trim include a hands-free powered trunk lid, a 10-inch head-up display, adaptive variable suspension, and dynamic rear steering.
