Used 2023 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearColorado Springs, CO

How much does the 2023 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 3,497 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Toyota 4Runner earns 4.78/5 from owners and 7.00/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and strong performance, and they also call out the spacious third row and solid interior layout. The 4Runner’s straightforward controls and easy-to-use features fit well if you want an SUV that feels simple and durable rather than overly complicated.

The trade-offs are clear: poor fuel economy and unimpressive safety ratings remain part of the package, and the on-road driving experience is not its strong suit. That makes it a better fit if you value off-road capability, space, and a rugged personality more than refinement.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 36.2% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe the 4Runner as reliable, and they frequently pair that with comments about comfort and durability. The expert evaluation also emphasizes legendary reliability and an indestructible feel, which reinforces the idea that this SUV is built for long-term use.

Toyota also includes free scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a rugged, older design can hide wear if it has been driven hard or maintained inconsistently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because accident-free listings do not guarantee a trouble-free example. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on wear from off-road use, suspension condition, and signs of hard use or neglect. You should also pay close attention to how the truck drives on pavement, since the 4Runner’s age and truck-based design can make condition differences more noticeable.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes SR5, TRD Sport, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, 40th Anniversary Special Edition, Limited, and TRD Pro. The 40th Anniversary Special Edition is based on SR5 Premium and adds retro styling touches, bronze accents, and a numbered plaque, while the base trims are simpler and less distinctive.
• Powertrain: Every 2023 4Runner uses a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with 4WD available or included on some trims, and fuel economy is 17 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every trim level.
• Infotainment: The biggest touchscreen is 8 inches, and the system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and available connected services. A navigation system and JBL premium audio are available upgrades.
• Fuel efficiency: The 4Runner is rated at 17 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 16.9 mpg.

Which 2023 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 8 trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, 40th Anniversary Special Edition, Limited, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point if you want the 4Runner’s core strengths at the lowest price, but it is the least special in terms of equipment and appearance.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more road-focused setup and a little more personality without moving into the pricier specialty trims.
• SR5 Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and serves as the base for the 40th Anniversary Special Edition.
• TRD Off-Road: Pick this if you want the most obvious off-road hardware and capability without paying for the top-end trims.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: This makes sense if you want the off-road focus plus more comfort and convenience features.
• 40th Anniversary Special Edition: This is the style pick, with retro graphics, bronze details, and limited-production exclusivity.
• Limited: Choose this if you want the most upscale feel and the available full-time 4WD option.
• TRD Pro: This is the enthusiast choice for buyers who want the most dirt-focused suspension tuning.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota 4Runner?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,497 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $41,403, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $43,608 sits slightly below last year's $43,922.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than sharply weakening. For a future seller, that usually means you are not fighting a steep depreciation curve, especially if your 4Runner is well kept and equipped with desirable trim or 4WD features.

The model’s strong reputation for reliability and durability should help keep buyer interest steady over time. Well-maintained examples with clean history and strong presentation are likely to remain easier to sell than more ordinary SUVs in the same price range.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings from NHTSA overall, with a three-star rating for front passenger protection in a frontal-impact collision and a three-star rating for rollover resistance. It also gets a Marginal rating from IIHS for driver protection in the small overlap frontal-impact test.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every trim level.

The main caveat is that the crash-test results lag behind newer rivals, so safety is one of the 4Runner’s weaker areas even though the active safety equipment is comprehensive.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a limited-production 40th Anniversary Special Edition.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $39,383, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $43,608 average.
• It blends off-road ability with straightforward tech and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $47,149, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $43,608 average.
• It emphasizes rugged reliability and off-road capability, but still trails newer rivals in refinement.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of current-year pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and a healthy used-car market, the 2023 is the sensible default. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want to spend more for a newer example, the 2024 is there, but it does not fundamentally change the 4Runner formula.
