Used 2023 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearColorado Springs, CO

How much does the 2023 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 3,519 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.00/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and strong performance, and they also highlight the spacious third row and the interior layout and features. That lines up with the 4Runner’s use case as an SUV that works well for families who want space and a straightforward cabin.

The main trade-offs are poor fuel efficiency and poor on-road handling. It makes the most sense if you want an SUV that is fun to drive off-road, spacious, and easy to use, rather than one that prioritizes refinement or efficiency.

Good and great deals account for 36.6% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback repeatedly points to reliability, and it also describes the 4Runner as dependable and trouble-free in the long run. That kind of language matters when you’re shopping used, because it suggests the model has earned trust over time rather than just a short-term positive impression.

The expert evaluation also describes it as a vehicle with a reputation for legendary reliability and durability. It adds that the 4Runner feels indestructible and is built for significant off-road capability.

Toyota includes free scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age-related wear can matter more than mileage alone, so condition and maintenance history should carry extra weight.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a body-on-frame SUV like this, because you want to confirm that the drivetrain, suspension, and underbody are in good shape. Focus on overall condition, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and used.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes SR5, TRD Sport, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, 40th Anniversary Special Edition, Limited, and TRD Pro. The 40th Anniversary Special Edition is based on the SR5 Premium and adds retro styling details, bronze accents, a numbered plaque, and standard 4WD, while the base trim keeps the cabin simple and functional.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard unless you choose 4WD, and the SUV is rated to tow 5,000 pounds.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder system. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every trim level.
• Infotainment: The biggest touchscreen is 8 inches, and the system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and available connected services. You can also add navigation, a JBL premium sound system, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
• Fuel efficiency: The 4Runner is rated at 17 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 16.9 mpg.

Which 2023 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 8 trim levels: SR5, TRD Sport, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, 40th Anniversary Special Edition, Limited, and TRD Pro.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point if you want the 4Runner’s core strengths without paying for extras. It gives you the traditional V6, the simple cabin layout, and the standard safety and infotainment basics, so it suits you if you value utility over upgrades.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a 4Runner tuned more toward on-road athleticism than the base model. It adds a suspension designed to improve road manners, making it a better fit if you spend more time on pavement than trails.
• SR5 Premium: This is the best-value choice if you want a more polished everyday experience without jumping into the pricier specialty trims. It also serves as the foundation for the 40th Anniversary Special Edition.
• TRD Off-Road: Pick this if you want the most trail-focused setup before moving into the premium off-road trims. It adds a suspension that improves wheel articulation by disconnecting the sway bars.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: This is the right step up if you want the off-road hardware plus a more upscale feature set. It makes sense if you want capability and comfort together.
• 40th Anniversary Special Edition: This is for you if styling and exclusivity matter as much as capability. It adds retro body stripes, bronze details, a numbered plaque, and standard 4WD, but it is more about appearance and commemorative appeal than added performance.
• Limited: Choose this if you want a more road-oriented 4Runner with a full-time 4WD option and a suspension aimed at improving on-road athleticism. It suits buyers who want a more refined daily driver.
• TRD Pro: This is the most serious choice if you want the strongest dirt-focused setup in the lineup. Its suspension is tuned for high-speed performance in the dirt.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every trim level.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,519 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $41,390, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $43,312 sits slightly below last year's $43,457.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price trend usually means you are less likely to see a sharp drop in value over a short ownership period.

The 4Runner’s strong owner satisfaction also supports demand, especially among buyers who want reliability and off-road capability. If the vehicle stays well maintained and in good condition, that combination can help it hold appeal in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with three-star ratings for front passenger protection in a frontal-impact collision and rollover resistance.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder system. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every trim level.

The main caveat is the crash-test performance, especially the three-star frontal passenger result and the three-star rollover rating. That’s the area you should weigh most carefully if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $39,184, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $43,312 average.
• It emphasizes off-road ability and straightforward tech.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $46,820, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $43,312 average.
• It leans even more heavily into reliability and durability.

The bottom line: If you want the current-year balance of price stability, strong owner satisfaction, and updated standard safety gear, the 2023 is the best all-around pick. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2022 is the better value play, while the 2024 makes sense only if you are willing to pay more for the newer model year.
