Used 2022 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearColorado Springs, CO

How much does the 2022 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 2.31% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,533 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.8/5 user-rated SUV with an expert rating of 7.00/10. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and off-road performance, and they also value its ruggedness and spacious interior. The main trade-off is that some shoppers feel it is overpriced for the limited features it offers, and fuel economy remains a common concern.

That fits the 4Runner’s use case well: you’re buying it for family duty, utility, and adventure-ready capability rather than refinement. With 35.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability, and the expert review also describes the V6 as reliable. That same review frames the 4Runner as a vehicle you can count on for rugged use, especially if you value durability over polish.

Toyota also backs it with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is accepting a truck-like SUV that can feel dated and inefficient if your priorities shift toward comfort or economy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has seen trail use. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of wear that can come with a rugged SUV used the way this one is meant to be used.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR5 starts with push-button start, remote keyless entry, a power-sliding rear window, satellite radio, multiple USB ports, a WiFi hotspot, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Premium SR5 adds HD radio, heated front seats, synthetic leather upholstery, and power-adjustable front seats. The Trail Special Edition adds a unique monotone paint scheme, a cargo basket, a sliding rear cargo deck with under-floor storage, and a premium accessory cooler. The TRD Sport adds road-oriented touches such as 20-inch wheels and X-REAS performance suspension. The TRD Off-Road adds 4WD, a locking rear differential, skid plates, crawl control, active traction control, and a terrain management system. The TRD Pro builds on that with enhanced shock absorbers, a 15-speaker JBL premium stereo system, a surround-view camera system, an off-road camera system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a moonroof. The Limited is the most road-focused, with heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, parking sensors, and X-REAS sport suspension.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic. It is described as reliable and decent off the line, but underwhelming in most other driving situations.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P includes standard forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree surround-view parking camera system are extra, and the TRD Pro adds an off-road camera system.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and multiple USB ports. You cannot upgrade to a larger screen, but you can add navigation, HD radio, and a 15-speaker JBL premium audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The 4Runner returns 16 mpg city, 19 highway, and 17 combined.

Which 2022 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 6 trim levels: SR5, Trail Special Edition, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the core 4Runner formula with the standard 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Toyota Safety Sense P. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the model and are comfortable keeping the equipment list simple.
• Trail Special Edition: This trim adds the most distinctive adventure-oriented extras, including the cargo basket, sliding rear cargo deck, under-floor storage, and premium accessory cooler. It suits you if you want a more specialized outdoorsy setup without jumping all the way to the pricier TRD models.
• TRD Sport: This is the road-biased choice, with 20-inch wheels, X-REAS performance suspension, and sport styling touches. It is the better fit if you want the 4Runner look and utility but spend more time on pavement.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the best-value trim for buyers who actually want the 4Runner’s trail hardware, because it adds 4WD, a locking rear differential, skid plates, crawl control, active traction control, and a terrain management system. If you want the most capability for the money, this is the one to target.
• TRD Pro: This is the most fully equipped off-road version, adding enhanced shock absorbers, a JBL premium stereo, surround-view and off-road cameras, dual-zone climate control, and a moonroof. Choose it if you want the most hardware and comfort in one package.
• Limited: This is the most road-oriented trim, with leather, heated and ventilated front seats, parking sensors, and X-REAS sport suspension. It suits you if you want a more upscale daily driver and care less about trail-focused equipment.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, but blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and the surround-view camera system are not standard on every trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,533 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.31% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $38,203, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $39,184 sits slightly below last year's $40,110.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the 4Runner’s reputation for durability and strong owner satisfaction helps support demand over time. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain it well, you should still have a vehicle that appeals to shoppers who want rugged utility.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings in frontal and side-impact testing, and three-star ratings for rollover testing from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P includes standard forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree surround-view parking camera system are extra, and the TRD Pro adds an off-road camera system.

The main caveat is that the 4Runner has not been evaluated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, so you should lean more heavily on its standard driver-assistance equipment and your own inspection of the specific vehicle you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.31% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It balances rugged utility with standard modern infotainment and safety tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $36,736, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $39,184 average.
• It emphasizes reliability, resale value, and go-anywhere utility.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $43,312, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $39,184 average.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, inventory, and the 4Runner’s core rugged appeal, the 2022 is the sweet spot. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2021 can save you money while keeping the same basic formula. If you want the newer safety update and can spend more, the 2023 is worth a look.
