How much does the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata cost?

Prices are up 1.98% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 364 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

The overview and test-drive data point to a lightweight, two-seat, rear-drive roadster that prioritizes driving enjoyment over outright speed. That makes it especially appealing if you want a focused sports car that feels playful and engaging rather than practical or luxurious.

The main trade-offs are a snug interior and limited cargo space, plus a cabin that is not built around everyday convenience. If you value open-air fun and a pure driving experience, those compromises are part of the package.

Good and great deals account for 34.6% of listings, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview and expert test-drive data both frame this Miata as a simple, focused roadster built around light weight and driving enjoyment. Its performance notes also emphasize a smooth 2.0-liter four-cylinder, rear-wheel drive, and Kinematic Posture Control, all of which support a composed, confidence-inspiring feel for a small sports car.

The cost-effectiveness notes reinforce the value angle, with the base trim positioned as a relatively affordable way to get this kind of driving experience. For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is less about complexity and more about whether the car has been cared for carefully, since its appeal depends so much on condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because this car’s value depends heavily on condition and prior use. Focus on signs of wear in the cabin, top mechanism, and exterior, since this is the kind of car that can be driven hard and stored in very different ways.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Sport is the simplest version, while Club improves handling and Grand Touring adds more features, including leather seats and shiny wheels. The base trim is the most stripped-down, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want more comfort or convenience.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 181 horsepower and pairs with a six-speed manual, while the automatic is available only on Grand Touring. The car’s light weight and rear-wheel-drive layout are central to its lively feel.
• Safety package: Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite includes Smart City Brake Support with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, plus blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-departure warning. Grand Touring adds traffic sign recognition, and that trim also gets adaptive front lighting, automatic high beams, rain-sensing wipers, and heated side mirrors.
• Infotainment: The system uses a 7-inch screen and includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, HD Radio, text-messaging support, and E911 emergency notification. Wireless Apple CarPlay is standard on Club and Grand Touring, while Android Auto requires a USB cable.
• Fuel efficiency: The test-drive data cites 29 mpg in combined driving, and the car exceeded that in testing at 30.2 mpg.

Which 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Club, and Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the simplest way into the Miata experience, and it keeps the car’s lightweight, driver-first character intact. Choose it if you want the purest version of the roadster and do not need extra comfort or convenience features.
• Club: This is the best-value trim if you want the Miata’s enthusiast focus with more capability. It improves handling, adds wireless Apple CarPlay, and brings the sportier equipment that makes the car feel more special without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Grand Touring: This is the trim to choose if you want the most comfort and convenience. It adds leather seats, more features, native navigation, and the automatic transmission option, so it suits you best if you want the Miata experience with fewer compromises.

Grand Touring also gets the extra safety and visibility features from the safety package, including traffic sign recognition, adaptive front lighting, automatic high beams, rain-sensing wipers, and heated side mirrors.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and move quickly when you find the right car.

• Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 364 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.98% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 87.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,298, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata's resale value?

The current average of $28,866 sits slightly above last year's $28,304.

That upward move suggests the market still values this model year well, which can help support resale strength if you decide to sell later. The year-round range also shows that pricing has stayed fairly tight, which is usually a sign of steady demand rather than a soft market.

Because this car has a clear enthusiast appeal, condition and mileage should matter a lot to future buyers. If you keep it clean and well documented, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata safe?

The 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is described as potentially unsafe in a crash.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite includes Smart City Brake Support with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning. Grand Touring adds traffic sign recognition, plus adaptive front lighting, automatic high beams, rain-sensing wipers, and heated side mirrors.

The safety caveat is straightforward: this is a very light, low sports car, and the test-drive data emphasizes that the laws of physics matter here. If safety is your top priority, you should be especially cautious and make sure the vehicle history is clean.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.98% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It delivers a focused, lightweight roadster experience with strong value and a pure driving feel.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $27,601, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $28,866 average.
• It adds Kinematic Posture Control and keeps the enthusiast-focused manual-transmission setup.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $30,403, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $28,866 average.
• It adds sharper steering, updated infotainment, and interior refinements.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, availability, and the classic Miata formula, the 2023 is the primary pick. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2022 is the better value play; if you want newer tech and updates, the 2024 is worth the extra money.
