How much does the 2023 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 4,629 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns 4.86/5 from owners and 7.17/10 from experts. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, performance, and features, along with the stylish interior, high-quality finishes, and user-friendly heads-up display. They also like the ride quality and handling, which helps this SUV feel more polished than many rivals.

The main trade-offs are the cramped back seat and limited cargo space, and the infotainment interface is a recurring frustration. For you, that means the CX-5 makes the most sense if you value driving enjoyment, upscale feel, and everyday comfort more than maximum space or a simple tech interface.

The market still shows healthy interest, with 36.3% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle people feel good about living with over time, especially for comfort, performance, and features. The expert evaluation also describes the CX-5 as refined and well sorted, with a tight, solid feel that supports confidence in daily use.

Mazda’s maintenance and ownership approach also helps the CX-5 feel easier to live with, especially if you keep up with routine service and stay on top of wear items. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace documentation. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on interior wear, infotainment operation, and signs of hard use, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for a long time. It also makes sense to compare trim equipment closely, since some of the most useful convenience and safety features are not universal.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans from the 2.5 S to the 2.5 Turbo Signature, and the base versions are the ones most likely to leave you wanting more equipment. Higher trims add a more upscale feel, while the top version brings features such as a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, Traffic Jam Assist, and an Active Driving Display.
• Powertrain: You can choose between a standard 187-hp four-cylinder and a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 256 hp and 320 lb-ft on premium fuel, or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular fuel. The standard setup returns 26 mpg in combined driving, while the turbo is rated at 24 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Mazda’s i-Activsense suite is standard on most versions, and it operates in a smooth, refined, and accurate manner. The most expensive trims add the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, and Traffic Jam Assist, so you should confirm whether a used example has those extras if they matter to you.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 10.25-inch display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Mazda Connected Services. The system does not include a helpful voice recognition system, and its center-console controls can be awkward, so test the interface carefully before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is rated at 26 mpg combined, while the turbocharged engine is rated at 24 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: 2.5 S, 2.5 S Premium Plus, 2.5 Turbo, 2.5 Turbo Signature, and the other versions in the lineup.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5 S: This is the entry point if you want the CX-5’s core strengths at the lowest price, including the standard powertrain and all-wheel drive. It makes sense if you care most about the CX-5’s style, driving feel, and safety reputation, but you should expect fewer luxury-style extras than the upper trims.
• 2.5 S Premium Plus: This is the better-value choice if you want a more complete CX-5 without jumping to turbo pricing. It sits in the sweet spot of the lineup and is the trim most likely to satisfy you if you want a more upscale experience without paying for the top-end model.
• 2.5 Turbo: Choose this if you want the stronger engine and the most rewarding driving character. It adds the turbocharged powertrain that makes the CX-5 feel especially quick and responsive, so it suits you best if performance matters more than maximizing fuel economy.
• 2.5 Turbo Signature: This is the most fully equipped version and the one to buy if you want the most premium CX-5 experience. It adds the most advanced safety and convenience features, including the surround-view camera system, parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, Traffic Jam Assist, and the Active Driving Display.

The safety package is strongest on the upper trims, so if those features matter to you, focus your search there.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s-market collapse.

• Deal availability: 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,629 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,843, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $25,782 sits slightly below last year's $26,042.

That small decline suggests the CX-5 is holding value reasonably well rather than dropping sharply. For you, that means the market is still supporting this model year, especially if you buy a clean example with desirable equipment and strong service history.

Because prices have stayed relatively stable, a well-kept CX-5 should remain easier to resell than a vehicle with a more volatile price pattern. If you buy smart now, you reduce the risk of taking a big hit later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, with four-star rollover resistance.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s i-Activsense suite is standard on most versions and is described as smooth, refined, and accurate. The upper trims add the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, Traffic Jam Assist, and an Active Driving Display, while the three most expensive versions also get blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning alerts with audible, tactile, or combined feedback.

One caveat is that some of the most useful safety and convenience features are reserved for the highest trims, so you should confirm equipment carefully on used examples. The CX-5 also gets top marks in the latest small-overlap and side-impact tests.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s a carryover year with only a new Rhodium White premium paint option.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $24,015, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $25,782 average.
• It offers a more premium-feeling compact SUV with strong turbocharged appeal.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $26,876, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $25,782 average.
• It brings continued refinement, premium materials, and strong safety in a polished package.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price stability, strong owner satisfaction, and broad market availability, the 2023 is the safe default. If you’re price-sensitive, the 2022 is the smarter value play; if you want the newest nearby option and don’t mind paying more, the 2024 is the cleaner upgrade path.
