How much does the 2023 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 1.03% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,799 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns 4.86/5 from owners and 7.17/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, performance, and features, along with the stylish interior, high-quality finishes, and user-friendly heads-up display. The ride quality and handling also draw positive feedback, which fits the CX-5’s polished, upscale feel.

The main trade-offs are its cramped back seat and limited cargo space, plus the infotainment interface that many drivers find frustrating. In practical terms, this is a strong fit if you want a compact SUV that feels more refined than basic transportation and you can live with the packaging compromises.

Good and great deals account for 39.3% of listings, so there is still meaningful room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle people feel good about living with over time, especially because it is described as comfortable, well-equipped, and enjoyable to drive. That kind of praise matters when you’re trying to judge whether a used SUV will feel dependable after the novelty wears off.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the CX-5 feels tight and solid, with refined driving dynamics and a well-sorted chassis. Mazda’s maintenance perk language is not included in the source material, so the ownership picture here rests more on satisfaction and overall refinement than on a specific service incentive.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the cabin space and technology will still suit your needs after purchase.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the cabin electronics, infotainment behavior, and overall interior condition, since those are the areas most likely to affect day-to-day satisfaction. It also makes sense to focus on how well the back seat and cargo area fit your real-world needs before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans from the 2.5 S to the 2.5 Turbo Signature, and the higher trims add a more upscale feel with features such as a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, a rear low-speed automatic emergency braking system, Traffic Jam Assist, and an Active Driving Display. The base versions are more limited, so you should compare equipment carefully if those convenience and safety upgrades matter to you.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 187 hp and 186 pound-feet of torque, while the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder delivers up to 256 hp and 320 lb-ft on premium fuel. Both pair with a six-speed automatic and standard AWD, and the standard engine is rated at 26 mpg combined while the turbo is rated at 24 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Mazda’s i-Activsense suite is standard, and it includes most of the brand’s driver-assistance tech. The 2.5 Turbo Signature adds the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, and Traffic Jam Assist, so lower trims miss some of those features.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 10.25-inch display with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Mazda Connected Services with a free three-year trial subscription. The system does not include a helpful voice recognition system, and the center-console controls can be awkward to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is rated at 26 mpg combined, while the turbocharged engine is rated at 24 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: 2.5 S, 2.5 Turbo, 2.5 S Premium, 2.5 S Carbon Edition, 2.5 S Premium Plus, 2.5 Turbo Premium, 2.5 Turbo Signature, 2.5 S Select.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5 S: This is the entry point if you want the CX-5’s core strengths at the lowest price, including the standard powertrain, AWD, and the model’s polished driving feel. It makes sense if you care more about value than extra convenience features.
• 2.5 S Select: This is the trim to target if you want a better-equipped daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder. It should appeal to shoppers who want a more comfortable ownership experience while staying close to the value end of the lineup.
• 2.5 S Premium: This is a good step-up choice if you want more comfort and convenience without going all the way to the turbo models. It sits in the middle of the range and should suit buyers who want a balanced mix of features and price.
• 2.5 S Carbon Edition: This is the pick if styling matters and you want a more distinctive look. It is best for shoppers who care about appearance and want the CX-5’s upscale vibe to stand out a bit more.
• 2.5 S Premium Plus: This is the best-value choice if you want a more premium-feeling CX-5 without paying turbo-model money. It sits near the upper end of the non-turbo lineup and should suit buyers who want the richest feature set before the engine upgrade.
• 2.5 Turbo: Choose this if you want the stronger engine and the extra punch that makes the CX-5 especially rewarding to drive. It is the right move if performance matters more to you than maximizing fuel economy.
• 2.5 Turbo Premium: This is the better choice if you want turbo power plus a more upscale equipment mix. It should appeal to buyers who want the stronger engine and a more polished overall experience.
• 2.5 Turbo Signature: This is the top choice if you want the most complete CX-5, including the extra safety and convenience features reserved for the highest trims. It is the one to buy if you want the most premium version and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is broadly standard, but the most advanced features are reserved for the 2.5 Turbo Signature.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 39.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,799 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.03% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,843, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $25,703 sits slightly below last year's $25,971.

That modest decline suggests the CX-5 is holding value reasonably well, but not aggressively appreciating. For a future seller, that means you should expect resale to depend more on condition, mileage, and trim desirability than on broad market momentum.

The current price range also shows that buyers still have options, which can cap upside if your vehicle is ordinary or poorly maintained. A clean, well-kept example should still stand out, especially if it has the features shoppers want most.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, along with a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s i-Activsense suite is standard, and it covers most of the brand’s driver-assistance technology. The highest trims add the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, Traffic Jam Assist, and an Active Driving Display. Blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning are also part of the safety picture, and the lane-departure warning can provide audible alerts, tactile alerts, or both.

One caveat is that the most advanced convenience and parking features are not standard across the lineup. If those matter to you, you should focus on the upper trims rather than assuming every CX-5 has the same safety equipment.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 39.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.03% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 keeps the CX-5’s upscale feel while adding only a new Rhodium White paint option.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,863, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $25,703 average.
• It offers a more premium-feeling CX-5 with strong style and driving enjoyment.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $26,893, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $25,703 average.
• It benefits from continuous refinement that makes it feel better than ever.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and upscale driving feel, the 2023 is the sweet spot. If you are price-sensitive, the 2022 is the smarter value play. If you want the newest nearby version and can pay more, the 2024 is the cleaner upgrade path.
