How much does the 2022 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 4.94% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,159 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its affordability, smooth ride, and excellent safety features, and many also like the comfortable interior and strong turbo performance. The CX-5’s premium feel and engaging driving character fit well if you want a compact SUV that feels more upscale than basic transportation.

The main trade-offs are the cramped back seat, limited cargo space, and unintuitive technology. That means it makes the most sense if you value style, driving enjoyment, and safety more than maximum space or the easiest infotainment setup.

Even so, the market still shows 39.7% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers highlighting the CX-5’s overall satisfaction, smooth ride, and strong safety reputation. The turbo version also gets positive attention from owners who want stronger performance without giving up the model’s everyday usability.

From the expert side, the CX-5’s revised powertrain and standard all-wheel drive support a confident, durable-feeling driving experience, and the quieter, smoother ride adds to its long-term appeal. Mazda also includes a generous complimentary three-year trial subscription to connected services, which helps early ownership feel a bit easier.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about whether the cabin, tech, and packaging still suit your needs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the infotainment operation, seat comfort, and overall cabin condition, since those are the areas most likely to affect your day-to-day satisfaction. Focus on whether the vehicle’s equipment level matches how you plan to use it, especially if you want more advanced safety or convenience features.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup starts with the CX-5 2.5 S base trim, which is the most affordable way in but leaves out some of the nicer features found higher up. The 2.5 S Premium and Premium Plus add more comfort and convenience, while the 2.5 Turbo base mixes equipment from higher 2.5 S trims and the Signature adds the most upscale touches.
• Powertrain: The 2.5 S uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.5 Turbo delivers up to 256 hp and 320 pound-feet of torque on premium gas. The 2.5 S is the efficiency play, and the turbo is the choice if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive headlights are added on the 2.5 S Premium, while the Signature gets a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 10.25-inch Mazda Connect display, and it is not touch-sensing. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with text-messaging support, E911 automatic emergency notification, and Mazda Connected Services.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5 S returns 26 mpg in combined driving, while the 2.5 Turbo is rated at 24 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: 2.5 S base, Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, Premium, Premium Plus, 2.5 Turbo base, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5 S base: This is the entry point if you want the lowest price and standard all-wheel drive, plus the core safety and infotainment equipment. It makes sense if you want the CX-5’s style and driving feel without paying for extras.
• Select: This is the first step up if you want a little more comfort and convenience without moving too far up the price ladder. It’s a sensible middle ground for shoppers who want more than the base trim but still care about value.
• Preferred: This trim is a stronger everyday choice if you want a more polished feel and are willing to spend more for it. It sits in the part of the lineup where the CX-5 starts to feel more upscale.
• Carbon Edition: This is the best-value style-and-features pick if you want a more distinctive look and a richer overall presentation. It’s a good fit if you care about appearance and a more premium vibe.
• Premium: This is the trim where the CX-5 starts adding more of the comfort and tech that make it feel genuinely upscale. It’s a smart choice if you want a well-rounded version without jumping all the way to the top.
• Premium Plus: This is the best-value trim for shoppers who want the most complete 2.5 S experience before moving into turbo territory. It adds more of the equipment that makes the CX-5 feel premium and is the trim to target if you want the strongest balance of features and price.
• 2.5 Turbo base: Choose this if you want the stronger turbo engine and quicker acceleration. It’s the right move if performance matters more to you than fuel economy.
• Signature: This is the top luxury-leaning choice, with the most upscale cabin materials and the fullest safety and convenience content. It suits you best if you want the most premium CX-5 experience available.

The 2.5 S Premium adds adaptive headlights, while the Signature gets the most advanced safety hardware in the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

The market looks moderate and selective, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 39.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,159 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.94% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,159, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $23,863 sits slightly below last year's $25,104.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-5 has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A model that is already trending lower can be easier to position competitively later, especially if you keep mileage and condition in check.

The CX-5’s strong reputation for safety and owner satisfaction should help support demand when it’s time to sell. If you buy well now and maintain it carefully, you’re more likely to preserve value than if you overpay for a higher-mileage example.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trims add more protection and convenience, including adaptive headlights on the 2.5 S Premium and a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist on the Signature.

That strong safety story is one of the CX-5’s biggest advantages, especially if you want a compact SUV that feels reassuring for family use. The main caveat is that the most advanced safety hardware is reserved for the top trim.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 39.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.94% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a more premium feel, stronger driving dynamics, and top-tier safety ratings.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,915, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,863 average.
• It offers strong value with updated tech and a new Carbon Edition.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,703, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,863 average.
• It stays fresh with the same polished driving character and upscale feel.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, safety, and premium character, the 2022 is the sweet spot. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the better value play, while the 2023 makes sense only if you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year.
